We had a wonderful time at the ashley. The beds were really comfy, the extra blanket was required though. We especially loved the friendly staff on the evening we arrived and the meal in the dining room was great value.

Unit was very private, spacius, self contained, well equiped and super clean; the decoration made us feel like home. The owners are lovely and caring but gave us space and independency at the same time, allowed us to use media platforms and unit had free wifi; they also had a pair of cute wee little friendly dogs who came to cheer us prior leaving. The continental breakfast was good and fresh also had some treats and beverage available for extra but a bargain as well. Good hot shower pressure. Very close to Shantytown and the beach as well as to some grocery shops.

We came to Greymouth on the Tranz Alpine train from Christchurch. Excellent trip. Lovely river walk and great restaurants and cafes in the central town. An easy town to explore on foot. Lots of local history about the town. Definitely recommend Greymouth for a short stay.

Gee, how long have you got?

Gee, how long have you got? I loved the swimming pool + the Westland Recreation Centre. We loved visiting Shantytown, spent 3 hours there, could easily have spent 4! Eating.... we had evening meals at Buccleughs on High, excellent food and lovely quiet atmosphere. We had our next evening meal at Montieths Brewery, which was a lot noisier, but Oh! Such yummy fish! We visited the incredibly impressive Pounamu Pathways museum & experience, which is quite new, and VERY impressive. It was realized with help from Sir Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop. (Pounamu is the name for Greenstone). I've included a photo. We also had a very tasty lunch at Sevenpenny Cafe (pictured).

Small town NZ still evolving..alot of the old character buildings in town have been demolished with new buildings are beginning to emerge. Greymouth is a great base from which to explore the West Coast. There is alot one can do and see on a day trip. Visit the isite at the railway station in Greymouth to get more information on what to do or ask a local.😊

A quiet town with nice places to eat and some quaint shops. Good transfer links by rail to Christchurch or by coach down to Franz Josef and the Fox Glacier. Day trips up the West Coast are very worthwhile and cover a lot of locations.

We visited Punakaiku Beach, about 40 minutes drive north of Greymouth. It was spectacular and will make one the highlights of our 3 month long trip. The town of Greymouth looked very nice - lots of shops and restaurants. Unfortunately it was raining heavily so we didn't get a chance to explore as much as we would have liked to.

From the start the girl taking us to Alan was polite and then Alan showing us to the new cabins and helping with the bags was great. A home away from home feeling. The hints from Alan on things to do, we would have missed, like the Pancake Rocks and The Hokitiko Gorge were great.
