We had gone to the Oyster Festival in Bluff on Saturday and decided to stay Sunday as well so we could visit Riverton and Oreti Beach. We experienced the most stunning weather in Invercargill and spend the afternoon in the fabulous Queens Park. What an asset to the city. We ate at the cafe there and enjoyed all the gardens and the wonderful new Tuatara Space. We walked to town for a spot of shopping followed by drinks at the newest hotel. The historic buildings. Friendly shop assistants. Very easy to drive around. The historic Invercargill Club in 32 Don Street is well worth a visit for adults without children for a drink and a meal. Beverley Small, the bubbly general manager, and the other members will welcome you there wholeheartedly, once and if a member has kindly signed you in. Much appreciated as it was a mid-winter stay in cold wet weather. The hotel was in a converted old office building so the ceilings were high and the stairs had a history to tell. But everything was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Right in the centre of Invercargill at the crossroads of the main streets - perfect for shopping and navigation - with off street parking.
