St arnaud is the starting point for discovering the delights of Nelson Lakes National Park. The town and the surroundings are extremely picturesque and the walks in the national park remain some of my favourites in the South Island. Beautiful beech forests. Also very nearby are dedicated mountain bike trails that are great fun.

Gorgeous part of the world with many activities to suit a variety of people and families. Whilst it maintains its small town charm, it was not hard to get what we needed. We were blessed to join in the church service held by beautiful people in an amazing chapel/church.

Take food and drinks with you if you can, I was fleeced $23 for six pack of Monteiths at the local Convenience store / cafe / petrol station. Beautiful location, not many options for accommodation, and can be pricey. Some good hikes and walks but not much else barring the amazing lakes

There's a lot to do in and around Saint Arnaud, we spent our time swimming in the lake (and dodging sandflies) and listening to the birds and admiring the view. There's hiking and boating that can be done here which we didn't have time to do.

Beautiful lake, bush, walks and scenery DOC present their local story very well and very happy to talk to visitors. Great trout fishing - huge eels under the jetty. Very good facilities! All is very local and accessible easily.
