FAQs about hotels in Wellington

Wild and Wonderful Welly

Acclaimed for its thriving art, film and cultural scene, windy ‘Welly’ is enclosed by mountains such as Kaukau and Victoria on one side and the picturesque Wellington Harbour on the other. Wellington has the distinction of being the world’s southernmost capital city.

As the gateway to New Zealand’s magical south island, Queens Wharf is headquarters for ferry services across Cook Strait as well as in the direction of Eastbourne on the other side of the harbour.

Get your bearings by using the Kelburn cable car that starts at Lambton Quay and travels up to the Botanic Gardens and Carter Observatory with its sweeping views across the Miramar Peninsula and local bays.

Don’t miss a visit to New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa, which also incorporates the National Art Gallery. Cuba Street offers a multicultural touch and includes the Wellington Night Market with an array of international cuisines. Ascot Street is a lively shopping precinct.

Wellington Airport has flights to other domestic destinations as well as Australia and Fiji. Booking.com can help you choose your hotel to round off a fantastic city trip vacation.

Love the breeze and fresh air windy at times but I love the cold weather Recommend the August eat for breakfast and brunch, very nice food is great, a lot of wood quality restaurants and bars nearby. I was catching up with friends and family so that was my focus on this trip. Wellington does have brilliant cafes, restaurants and attractions such as the Cable Car, Te Papa, Mt Victoria lookout etc. Parking in the city is expensive so look into parking apps as they can save you lots of money. The Wakefield Market on a Sunday is worth going to but parking can be challenging if you go later in the day.

There are lots of great sites such as the Museum within a relatively confined space. Good public transport is available. There are lots of good restaurants and cafes. In summer, the beaches and coastal areas are lovely and very accessible. Its worth visiting other suburbs such as the Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa, also with good museums, beaches, eateries.

Our Capital city is a vibrant and fascinating city.

Our Capital city is a vibrant and fascinating city. Love the restaurant/cafe/bar life - what a buzz. And all within walking distance of most hotels. Ate at Ortega - wonderful fish on menu - and friendly efficient staff. Excellent evening. Actually we are not young - my husband is 5 months away from hitting 80 and I'm a year behind him. We are however, young at heart.

We used Uber for all our inner city trips, it was so easy to get around. The 3 hour bus tour of the city was a highlight, the guide Hamish was excellent. We ate dinner at Grazie Italiano at Double Tree By Hilton, it was superb, food, service, the whole nine yards. Te Papa was good but The Gallipoli exhibit was closed as was the cable car both of which we would have loved to visit.

We live not too far away on the Kapiti Coast.

We live not too far away on the Kapiti Coast. This trip was to give my two grand-daughters, aged 4 and 6, their first experience of staying in a Hotel. We had a great time! Wellington is an easy city to get around. We spent time at the park on the waterfront, took the ferry to Days Bay, and ate the best ever doughnuts from the foodtruck on the Wellington waterfront!! Thank you to the gentleman for making them feel so welcome!! We went back for seconds the next day! And the weather was kind to us too!

My stay at the Mercure Hotel in Wellington over the Easter period was an absolute delight. The hotel's prime location allowed for easy exploration of the city, providing a perfect balance of convenience and tranquility. The room exceeded my expectations, offering comfort and luxury that enhanced my holiday experience. Every detail, from the tasteful decor to the attentive service, was tailored to ensure a memorable stay. It was truly a home away from home, and I couldn't have asked for more from my Easter getaway.

The hotel staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, with a special shoutout to the delightful Filipino receptionist who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded to a spacious and well-appointed room, which was impeccably clean and comfortable. The hotel's central location was perfect for exploring the city, and overall, our stay was nothing short of excellent. We are already looking forward to returning in the future.

Had a wonderful couple of days in central Wellington. Even though the hotel is right in the centre of the city, our room was quiet. Also clean, well appointed and spacious. Parking was fantastic although we walked everywhere once we arrived at the hotel.
