The cable car and Monte park are exceptional. You would probably spend more time travelling around the island than in Funchal itself. The location was lovely if you like peace and quiet, we knew the location so we’re not too bothered that there is nothing to do in the evenings, most of the cafes close and is difficult to find somewhere to eat for dinner if you don’t stay in the hotel.
