Our hosts were incredibly accommodating from airport pick up to drop off. Our 6 day stay was met with constant support from the hosts, which gave us that peace of mind when needing assistance with anything. They even offered to drive us to the closest ATM, the Telekom outlet to buy a SIM, and even to the market on our first day in Honiara. If you’re thinking of hiring a car, no problem! They have a RAV4 that they hire out to their guests for $500 (Solomon $$) per day, which is a reasonable price, considering bond/insurance fees you normally pay from car rental outlets. We would definitely recommend staying at Lonely Hill Apartments. We would definitely go back and stay there. Great value for money, although a 10min drive from the town centre, it’s still a great location, being that it’s closest to the International Airport. 10\10 for sure!

No meals included, but there was a full service kitchen to make your own. Coffee and tea provided. What makes a stay here exceptional is the family that takes you in like you are part of it. Transport and great tours can be arranged through the host family. I booked 2 days and stayed 7. A wonderful experience.

Tourism here is quite undeveloped compared to other Pacific countries but I found Karen at Iumi Tour Solomons excellent. She arranged a couple of day tours when I was stranded in Honiara due to frequently changed flight schedules. Allow for things to go wrong and it is a wonderful experience if a little gritty.

I was there to visit the US Marine Corps battle sites: Edson's Ridge, Alligator Creek, Battle of Henderson Field, and others. There's a lot to see in 1 week, so plan in advance what you want to see - and get in shape to hike in the heat. These are real jungle battlefields, and with luck you'll find relics and remnants.

Not set up for independent tourists, it's still possible to go and arrange thing yourself. i hired a banana boat to take me to Roderick Bay to see the wreck of the World Discoverer with a stopover in Tulagi. There's no a lot to do in the main centre so get away from the dust and see a bit of the island. The dive shop is shut for walk-in business, but i was told to ring to arrange something. The beach at Bonegi is worth the visit for snorkeling on the WW2 wreck. The Sugar Plum restaurant in the Art Gallery is good cheapish food. Next door is a path to take you to a more upmarket and excellent breakfast cafe called the Breakwater. There's a sign outfront.

It offers people a view of a primitive society.

It offers people a view of a primitive society. It is safe, and offers interesting historical and cultural views. The hotels vary and are clean and safe. Tours are available to see historic places from World War II that were active in the Solomon Islands. There are ways to enjoy the water snorkeling at a few places that are really beautiful. This is not a sandy beach, luxury island. Water ways are also used for disposing of garbage. The streets are covered with Beetle nut spit. You don't walk barefoot. Shanty's line the streets in out of town. Individual gardens are the source of food. But grocery stores are starting to import canned and dried goods. Their gardens provide most of the food. They are now building good new schools and encouraging the young people to be able to improve their lives with education.

The house was very clean and comfortable. We had been staying in a village so it was nice being able to cook our own food. The view was fantastic, and town was an easy walk passed villages. Everyone on the way to town was very friendly. The owner, JR, was very helpful advising us of areas of interest in Honiara and where to eat. This info was very much appreciated. I liked the area as we were amongst the local people. I would be very happy to stay here again.

The friendly helpful staff offer solid advice. Clean and perched on the hill with a balcony overlooking Iron Bottom Strait, this was for me the perfect accommodation for Honiara. I stayed an extra night without problem. Recommended
