This hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise, since I didn’t expect much based on the pictures. Yes, the room is very small, but it’s so comfy! The mattress and the pillows are perfect, it’s so quiet in the hotel that you can spend the whole day in bed comfortably. You can open a window in the room, which is rare for Stockholm hotels. But the biggest plus of this hotel is breakfast, probably the best I ever had in a hotel. Everything is right temperature and very tasty, huge selection for a small hotel like this. Lots of gluten free and healthy options and amazing deserts, including candies and cakes. I didn’t see any children around while I was staying there, probably because the rooms are too small to stay with kids, which gives you an additional bonus of peace and quiet at breakfast and in the hotel in general. The stuff is very nice and helpful, I asked for a kettle and they immediately brought it to my room. Considering how awful most of the hotels are in Stockholm (from my experience), this was a hidden gem.

All the staff were so friendly and helpful I really appreciated the recommendations I received when I checked in on surrounding places to visit. wide-ranging. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was super comfortable with various high-quality pillows to choose from. I also loved having my bed turned down in the evening. The breakfast is delicious and wide-ranging to satisfy all palettes. We visited in February, so not balcony weather really. And yet it was mild enough one evening to sit out there briefly and enjoy the night air and view over Mariatorget. Thank you that there was furniture there and even flower boxes. All-in-all a fabulous stay. My husband and I regularly treat ourselves to long weekends away, testing different hotels in Stockholm, and Hotel Rival is one we will definitely return to.

A Natural Beauty

Modern Stockholm is uniquely made up of 30% waterways and another 30% of parks and green spaces. It’s spread across 14 islands and is both one of the world’s cleanest and most charming capitals.

Stockholm’s famously huge number of museums includes the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet, the Moderna Museet and the Spritmuseum. City Hall hosts the famous Nobel Prize banquet and the Vasamuseet hosts the 300 year old Vasa warship.

The city’s past can be felt in Gamla Stan – Stockholm’s stunning Old Town with medieval layout, cobblestone streets and the Baroque-style Royal Palace. Designer Swedish clothes and interior decorations abound in the many unique stores throughout the city.

For a day away, ferries reveal the stunning Stockholm archipelago, a group of thousands of islands and rocks where you can enjoy hiking, outdoor swimming and fishing.

Whether you fly to Arlanda, Bromma, Skavsta or Västerås Airports, the city centre can be reached by either train or airport coach. Booking.com offers a wide choice of accommodations for your Stockholm holiday, from modern hotels, to unique botels and affordable hostels.

Hop On/Off bus with commentary in any language of choice and the drivers kept to the timings which was very good and professional. Loved the cobbled streets, and the shops and different buildings. Enjoyed the train from Stockholm/Norrkoping return which ran on time. Paying for the use of toilets not using cash caught us out a couple of times at the beginning.

This is a lovely city with friendly people (who all speak perfect English!) and easy transport options around. It is also super clean. The Ocean Bus (converts from land to sea) is good value and takes you around the main areas (which are quite spread out) and then down on to the water to view everything from there. It can be breezy on the water, so pack a warm jacket. The museums (especially the Vasa Museum) are excellent, but you have to pay. In fact, the only downside of Stockholm is that it is expensive - especially the food and wine, so check the restaurant menus carefully. If you want wine in the evening it's wise to buy a bottle in a state-run offlicence (Systembolaget) and drink it in your room before going out! And don't forget to visit the Ice Bar at the Hotel C near Central Station - an absolute must!

Everyone should visit Stockholm - it is such a beautiful city. Our best experience was arriving by ferry from Tallin, and cruising through the many islands of the archipelago in the early morning. Gamla Stan is certainly interesting, but unfortunately is over-crowded with tourists and the shops there are mostly selling inferior product at excessive prices. Sodermalm (on a weekend) was much more interesting, and a little calmer, Kastellholmen was also interesting with good views of the harbor activity. We found Djurgardan the most relaxing island to visit - many interesting museums, including the free maritime museum, but also some lovely, quiet walks around the eastern half of the island. There are some wonderful shopping galleries in Stockholm - our favorite was NK - definitely next level in terms of class, and also able to get a decent coffee at a reasonable price there. We found a number of decent places to eat at Hotorgshallen and the surrounding area at reasonable prices. Overall, Stockholm is crowded and expensive, but still worth a visit,

It's easy to get around. People are friendly, courteous. There was the Cultural festival on in August which made it interesting to walk round at night - lots of events for families and all ages. It is easy to explore Stockholm on foot, by bus or by water - we took a short cruise to Vaxholm and really enjoyed the scenery. Lots of food to choose from - we ate local food mixed in with sandwiches, pastries and some Italian as well.

I went for the opera at Drottningholm Palace Theatre. Nowhere else in the world can you experience first rate Baroque opera in a theatre of that period which has been restored with original materials to its original form and is still in use. It is unique and provides a wonderful experience every August. One of the many fine examples of available attractions in Stockholm.

The breakfast was outstanding, I would go as far as to say it was the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The choice was amazing. The location of the hotel to the ferry into central Stockholm was great, literally 1 minute outside the hotel. We had a room with a view and it was spacious and well equipped. We ate dinner in the SQ restaurant on our first night and it was great quality and value for money. The dessert was so amazing that we went back to order again 2 nights later!

The room was comfortable and spacious enough and had sound-proof windows, which was great. I do not have any critics about the room. Room was surprisingly quiet. First I got a room on the second floor, but had a gym right under and the gym noises (weights hitting the floor) arrived to my room. I asked a change and it was kindly done and on the 7th floor it was quiet. Hotel has amazing views and the best location one could have in Stockholm!
