We stopped in Morro Bay for a night on our way home to San Francisco from Venice Beach (great halfway point) and enjoyed our waterfront hotel. The town is very small so very walkable. The waterfront has a bit of a touristy feel with lots of souvenir shops and restaurants. Hearst Castle and the Elephant Seal Refuge is only a 20 minute drive from downtown Morro Bay and definitely a must see. Downtown Morro Bay has lots of wonderful shops and restaurants. Our favorite shops are; The Garden Gallery and the Shell shop. A nice picturesque oceanside/bay town with a good mix of local, unique art/items along with the typical tourist souvenirs. Lots of things to do and lots of great restaurants from high end to takeout.
