Perfect place to visit for Wild West history buffs or nature lovers. We stayed 2 days in Silver City before staying in the Gila Wilderness. I loved meeting a lot of people and all were very nice. Roxy's was great both times we ate there, Service very nice. Food delicious. I can't remember one we visited but it was across the street, and I loved the food. Olive Restaurant in Mimbres was great and the drive spectacular. Views of the mountains wonderful! Great destination for 2-3 nights if you are a hiker or...
Great destination for 2-3 nights if you are a hiker or outdoor enthusiast. Historic downtown has several very good restaurants but is missing a wine bar and a couple more lunch options. Toad Brewery and Jalisco Mexican food were good, and there’s a French restaurant that looks good as well. The town has a very chill, laid-back vibe similar to nearby Bisbee, AZ. Founded as a mining town, today the main attraction is its proximity to the Gila National Forest, the Gila Cliff Dwellings Natinal Monument and the Whitewater Canyon Recreation Area and its Catwalk accessible trail. Hiking the Gila Mountains is the major other attraction, but there are a number of historic sites in the surrounding area, too. The town of ~9,000 is principally a college town with some historic sites and areas. It's worth a stop if you're touring the Southwest, but isn't a destination vacation spot in itself. We live about 2 1/2 hrs from Silver City, so go there...
We live about 2 1/2 hrs from Silver City, so go there several times a year. Usually a day trip, this was the first weekend stay. Shops to wander through, The Hub has some nice little places (The Mint Ice Cream shop), Adobe Springs has good food but a long wait. Good walking around place, museums to visit, home of Western NM U, lots of murals on buildings. Worth the visit for sure.Guest review byPamMUnited States - 8.0
Silver City has a lo of history attached to the city.
Silver City has a lo of history attached to the city. Since the mines closed down, the city came upon hard times. The architecture in the city has been left untouched which makes it ideal to see what Victorian cities looked like back in the 1880's.Guest review byDavidUnited States
