We were there for Bridge Festival and the All-Class reunion.

We were there for Bridge Festival and the All-Class reunion. We spent time on the Square but did not enter all the retail businesses. It's a beautiful town any time of year, but the Fall colors are especially nice. I enjoyed the car show on Sunday. We also enjoyed our drive through the City Park and the Pammel State Park just west of town. We ate from vendors at the festival as well as Mexican food at the Mi Pueblito

Our visit to Winterset was great.

Our visit to Winterset was great. We were traveling from Minnesota to our home in Oklahoma, and decided to stay in Winterset to tour the covered bridges. Because we were traveling, we were not able to visit all the bridges or the John Wayne Birthplace and Museum. The bridges we were able to see, did not disappoint. We were impressed with the city park and the appearance of the town. Everything was so well maintained. We could tell the residents take pride in their community. We plan to go back when we have more time.

The covered bridges, obviously, are the chief attraction of Winterset. They're all fairly close to this motel, i.e., within a 10-minute drive. Clark Tower in the city or county park in Winterset is also worth seeing. It's a mile in from the entrance. You can drive there or hike. We hiked and had no difficulty doing so, but be prepared to go up and down some hills. We also walked around the courthouse square downtown. There's a small donut shop at the northeast corner, next to the Iowa Theater (I don't remember its name). Everything is hand-made on-site, fresh, tasty, and VERY inexpensive.

Winterset was a quaint little town with lots of history. Between the John Wayne museum and the historic covered bridges, there was plenty to do and see. Will definitely come back. Also, the rural surrounding areas were a gold mine for photo enthusiasts . It was a beautiful area to visit.
