South Merino is luxurious - beautifully designed and decorated, with comfortable beds, a generous shower and great attention to detail. We were also lucky to have a dark night because the star gazing on the farm is amazing! Although close to the N1, is very quiet at South Merino guest farm and we slept very well. The farm is also very safe and secure. We chose the option of Karoo lamb pie and salad for supper - it was delicious and much appreciated after a long day on the road. We also ordered ham and cheese croissants as padkos and really enjoyed them. Our hostess, Anneke, also very kindly tracked down Karoo lamb for us to take home with us, for which we are extremely grateful. We will definitely be back.

We loved the staff, the dinner was superb, and our rooms were extremely clean and decorated beautifully. The pool, pool loungers and garden were the highlights for me. Our Yorkies were safe and they enjoyed the experience as well. Will definitely return to Seisoen.

We were welcomed with friendliness and professionalism. We were pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the room. The little touches ( rusks, chocolates, sherry, good ground coffee, DSTV) were special. As a one night stop over to/from Cape Town/Johannesburg this was an ideal location. The beds were very comfortable and the linen/towels was of a very high standard. Just remember to pack your own food - the kitchen is well equipped to warm meals.

The most amazing experience! We wished we could have stayed longer. This is a must for any art lover. The house has access to a binding shop and a modern art gallery which we loved! We would definitely stay more than one night next time! Also amazing food at the Vetmuis plaas kombuis just down the road.

While traveling from Johannesburg to Cape Town, the Karoo manor guesthouse is an ideal stop over. A very calm place to sleep over and Pat's kitchen is a delight to eat at. We sat under a grape vine that is at least 150 years old and beautifully maintained and pruned, offering gorgeous shade We had the sticky chicken wings and the lamb chops for dinner lovely. The pizzas are a fan favorite. They make homemade pizza bases and their own tomato paste, but huge pizzas 2_3 people can share one! Looks lovely!

Richmond offers an ideal stopover for travelers journeying from Gauteng to Cape Town, conveniently located more than halfway to the Mother City. We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of accommodation available. Do be aware that the town tends to shut down around 5 PM, so plan accordingly for dinner and other essentials. A definite highlight was the local butchery, Richmond Meat & Deli. It proved to be a real winner, offering excellent coffee and delicious homemade pies – perfect for a tired traveler!

The Richmond area is very well located if you are overnighting on your way to Cape Town as it's an easy day's drive. South Merino Gastehuis is a farm about 15 km on the Beaufort West side of Richmond and not in the town of Richmond itself. This is a plus because guesthouses in the village of Richmond itself struggle with car break-ins. Guests who stay in Richmond town (which is very pretty) are advised to choose accommodation that offers secure parking. South Merino however is very safe and secure. By the way, Richmond is much nicer than Hanover, which has become very run down, dirty and unsafe. I defintely do NOT recommend staying in Hanover (northern cape) overnight.

Disliked · There is NOTHING to do in the town. We walked to the one 'eatery', Ka-Ma, without any success of seeing a form of life. Just pack your own.

Richmond is a convenient stopover en route to/from the Cape from/to Gauteng. The town has plenty of interesting houses, restaurants and galleries. One could easily stay a few days as there's plenty of interest in the area, and for those with an interest in art and books, it's a great destination. I was pleasantly surprised at how neat and clean the town was - very little litter.

The town need a bit of TLC, but with lots of potential.

The town need a bit of TLC, but with lots of potential. Modern Art Projects was a nice surprise with a wonderful staff member that showed us around. Vetmuis Plaaskombuis is a must visit. They also sell beautiful products and produce, staff very friendly. I am sure there is much more to the town if you spend more time there.
