The ryokan itself is a beautiful traditional Japanese building, offering a warm and authentic atmosphere. Dinner was absolutely outstanding—one of the best meals we had in Japan! The dishes kept coming, each one more delicious than the last, and we ended the meal with homemade plum wine prepared by the owner. Afterward, we relaxed in the wonderful onsen, making for a perfect evening. The next morning, a fantastic and varied breakfast awaited us, rounding off an exceptional stay. If you're looking for a truly authentic Japanese experience, this is the place for you!

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Everything! This was the most beautiful ryokan with wonderful staff who were welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. We had breakfast and dinner in our room and they were both superb - beautifully presented, exceptional tastes and served gracefully by the staff. A true delight! The amenities were comfortable and the onsen beautiful with both indoor and outdoor baths. The hospitality of Ryokan Tanabe is exceptional - if you are looking for a great ryokan experience I highly recommend staying here.

Excellent service at the center of the city. I forgot sole earbuds in my room and they helped me review of i left them there

Awarded in 2014 with TripAdivsor’s Certificate of Excellence, Takayama Ouan features traditional Japanese designs and tatami (woven-straw) flooring throughout. this hotel is such a hidden place in a very nice town , we arrived with the worst snowstorm in years....Shoes has to be taken off at the lobby with a special designed area with lockers for it. The rooms are really nice with lovely beds. ' The onsen was great also the private onsen. The breakfast is must do and also the free ramen in the vening is really great.
