• Set within a 1000-acre private nature reserve in Central America’s last remaining lowland tropical rainforest in Costa Rica’s wild Osa Peninsula.

  “This resort is probably one of the coolest and more unique places I will ever stay in my life. The location is just unbelievable. It was an experience that I will never ever forget. Sleeping to the sounds of the rain forest, the outdoor shower, enjoying coffee in our bed wrapped in mosquito net. Just SUPER cool. With that being said this property has SO MUCH potential but they fell short so many times in our short 3 day stay there. For the money that we paid for this resort it should have been a flawless amazing time for two extremely easy going people. Sad to say - the staff/execution of things need some work. If you plan to stay at the Lapa Rios you are going to need a 4x4 rental car or arrange for some kind of pickup/transportation. If you do plan on renting a car I would suggest that you do so only if you are very comfortable driving. You will be driving on very rough terrain, across streams that may be high if they have had rain, across narrow bridges without sides and going up some seriously steep hills. I love driving and found the 30 minute bumpy drive really fun but I can see how some might be miserable. Corcovado National Park hike is a MUST. They offer tours right through the facility but they are insanely inflated. Maybe we weren't the right clientele for the Lapa but just consider your options. The included food menu was really wonderful and if you are a normal person without a lot of dietary restrictions you are going to be living the good life!! The location has its own self guided trails and some beautiful waterfalls that you can walk down to. All in all it was an amazing experience and we have great memories from staying at Lapa.”

  “Thomas and his staff were caring and delightful. The breakfast was fantastic, fresh fruit, eggs to order beans and rice, toast...Very filling meal to start the day. We went on the dolphin tour in his boat and watched dolphins leaping out of the water and swimming around our boat for over an hour, a highlight of the trip. The macaws would fly over and actually land on the property trees to feed on the fruits, and lizards would bask in the sun on the sidewalk. Howler monkeys could be heard in the trees. We even saw crocodiles in the lagoon. Lots of great birdwatching, swimming, lounging, bikes were available for guest use too! Wonderful place.”

An absolutely beautiful home with a stunning garden and delightful (so we’ll trained) dogs and cats. This was a perfect stay after my trek in Corcovado— I arrived to wonderful hospitality, a hot shower, extremely cute room (with a/c) and incredibly comfortable bed. Héléne made me an outstanding breakfast each morning and brought an umbrella to me when it started pouring and I was out in the garden. Philippe insisted on driving me to the airport in the morning even though it was just a block away, and wouldn’t even let me clear my breakfast plates because, as he said “you’re on vacation!” They are both lovely and warm and wonderful to talk to. They also provide the perfect amount of privacy. I did not want to leave — they alone are worth returning to Costa Rica. Missing this oasis & Hélène and Philippe already!”

  “We booked this place as we wanted an authentic experience in the jungle and that is exactly what we got! The host family are the most beautiful people you will ever meet. The cabina you sleep in is very basic but comfortable with no electricity so be sure to be prepared. We ate breakfast and dinner with the family for an additional cost. The food was all freshly prepared by Lorena every day and was delicious and plentiful. Lorena truly has magic hands! There is amazing wildlife with every view, at different times of the day. Dalila, Lorena and Gustavo's 13 year old daughter, gave us a tour into the jungle, her knowledge of the local area was amazing and she was very helpful with our 7 and 4 year old daughters. We were quite anxious about staying here due to being so deep in the jungle with no electricity in the cabins with 2 young children, however we totally fell in love with this place and the host family, it was very hard to leave.”
