I had the loveliest time at Guesthouse Bon! The twin room was traditional with a futon and sitting pillows, and beautiful rice paper doors to a small terrace. The common area was a nice place to have breakfast, and the kitchen had all the needed amenities. Shower and toilets outside worked very well and gave you privacy. In addition, I loved the location: the neighborhood was quiet and beautiful and it was easy to get around the city with bus and metro. I went to a nearby sento a couple times and enjoyed it a lot!

This is a spacious and well maintained traditional Japanese house that has everything you may need (kettle, microwave, heater/air condition, toiletries, slippers, massage device, laundry machine, extra baskets to take antyhing you need to the local onsen etc.). The owner was super sweet and helpful and gave us plenty of suggestion what to do for fun activities, food, etc. Everything has been super organised and very thoughfully designed. You get to sleep on a tatami floor and experience the vibe of a more traditional area. We love it and we wished we stayed longer (as we have been wanting to book this property for some time, but unfortunately when we got to book it it was available for only one of the nights we were in Kyoto).

An incredible and memorable stay for part of our time in Kyoto. We were greeted by Shimo who proceeded to give us an in depth introduction to the area and the home, complimented with a tea ceremony. The house was clean, stocked with all the essentials and more as well as free bikes to use at our leisure. Shimo was always available via WhatsApp and helped us with a dinner reservation at a local izakaya. This is the perfect cultural experience and such a blessing to be welcomed into such a beautiful space. We loved every minute.

So tasteful and opulent, we felt like we were in a beautiful museum. Such a treat for our family of four, definitely my favourite accommodation on our journey to Japan.

The area was great. Quiet and with great conveniences. Local Cafe and ramen bar, family mart nearby and 5 minutes walk to train station which takes you straight into kyoto. The apartment was a combination of modern and traditional.

Great hosts. The owners are very kind and friendly - its fantastic to chat with the chef while he is preparing the dinner. He gave us a ride for an early morning tour and even managed to find us one of the clay cooking pots.
The place is a bit out of central kyoto but perfect for avoiding crowds- and for a bit more of an authentic experience
