Cool building, lovely staff, facilities and location. If you want to eat at a restaurant, their recommendation is a good one, and it seemed like the only open place for dinner. Spacious dorms, everything clean and neat.

After reading the rave reviews, I booked this stay months in advance to make sure we would not miss the opportunity to meet Ken and Yuki and to stay at their guesthouse boasting modern facilities and balancing comfort and sleek design with traditional Japanese architecture and minimalistic and elegant interior design. At the end of a long day hiking, we were greeted with a big smile as if we'd come home to our family, a feeling that is both priceless and heatwarming. Ken's kind and welcoming nature is only rivalled by Yuki's and her sense of humor. Dinner was as delicious as our breakfast (all guests shamelessly went for seconds and some even thirds taking the lead for a brave lady I shall not name), enjoyed to the sound of Jazz standards in a communal spirit shared with the other guests, all of whom polite and considerate, as if handpicked by the hosts or perhaps instinctively mirroring their behavior. Guests do not have to wait to take a shower because there are three showers, one of which with an additional bathtub, for four rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and organized, making you feel restful instantly. So, do not hesitate to book this guesthouse as you make your way along the Old Nakasendo Road or just take a taxi to Magome and walk a few hundred meters to take photos for your Insta. Whether you fit the former or latter category, you will be treated as a family member by the kindest people we've met during our 3-week stay in Japan. I've already recommended this guesthouse to everyone I know who is planning to visiting Japan.

The hosts are very kind people who do their best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Since it is a rural area and there are no supermarkets close by the owner was kind enough to drive us to a nearby city to pick up our dinner. The house itself is absolutely beautiful and a great place to stay with small groups. We also received several drinks and snacks for free. For us this was the perfect way to end a day walking the nakasendo trail. I cannot give any higher recommendations!

Magome Chaya guesthouse is right in the middle of the small town of Magome. Could not ask for a more central location. The location along with the hard working and friendly staff made for an incredible stay. We did not do dinner, but we did have breakfast. The food was simple traditional Japanese breakfast, but was very hardy, tasty and kept us going on our hike that day. If you are going to hike the trail and need a simple friendly place to stay, this is it.

We had a lounge, bedroom, beautiful private Onsen. The setting is spectacular and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. He speaks fairly good English and is happy to pick you up and drop you off. The food was amazing - authentic, delicious, bountiful.

We enjoyed having the whole house to ourselves and having lots of space to spread out. We had a very warm welcome from the lady who checked us in, she was fantastic and very helpful. The house is a beautifully converted old shop. It has been renovated exceptionally, and it was lovely and clean and spacious. The traditional Japanese style mattresses were the most comfortable we have had in Japan so far. The road below can be a little noisy at night with trucks but it did not affect us having a lovely stay, and there is a room upstairs on the other side that you could request if you wanted the quieter room. There is a supermarket 100m down the road, and the little restaurant next door was delicious for dinner. We would happily stay here again!

This is as good as a Ryokan can get. You are treated like a valued family member and the cottages are historical and charming. The cuisine artfully prepared by very creative Masaya Yashida (a member of the family owning the place for over 400 years) served with love in the room is unique and features a lot of vegetables and other local ingredients. Nothing is too much for them and they offer you all kind of transfers, not only to the train station, but also to departure points of the Nakasendo walk. Value for money is fantastic and I wonder how they do. Best place ever I have been in Japan and in general I do not write reviews.

The house is amazing, I was sad that I only spent one night there, it was a great experience to stay in a Japanese house, Assi was very friendly and welcoming, made me feel at home, helped me to get a restaurant as I arrived late, and gave suggestion for my breakfast next morning.I definitely recommend this place. Obrigada.
