Triabunna Barracks is an1840’s sandstone Barracks and Stables finished to the highest standards. The property features three stunning bedroom suites, each with its own kitchenette and luxurious bathroom. The large deep bath and with cosy heated floors are the perfect way to relax after a big day! The large rooms are a perfect blend of old meets new, but the feel is truly cosy and romantic. We are located just 60 minutes drive from Hobart Airport on Tasmania's sunny east coast. The old Stables has a chefs kitchen, commercial coffee machine, dining and common area complete with fireplace. The perfect place to sit and relax with something nice and Tasmanian from our honesty bar. Our breakfast is full of freshly home made or locally sourced foods for low food miles and maximum taste. Start with home made granola (V) and yogurt with our own poached fruit, and then our fresh home baked bread, local bacon and eggs done your way. Our generous breakfast is full of delicious local whole foods to fuel your day! We have a CCS2 Electric Vehicle Charging Point in the car park. Energy for the charger is supplied by our 12KW solar array.
Hi! We’re Kim and John. Our background isn’t Tourism, you might call us late starters. But we’re well travelled, we love good food and have a passion for cooking with delicious local produce. We enjoy a project or two and we are particular about attention to detail. At fifty we decided that it was time for a change and we came up with a five-year plan to ditch our busy lives for a slower more meaningful life somewhere else. Our story with Triabunna Barracks (The Barracks) commenced in 2014 when we found two beautiful but incredibly run-down stone buildings in the small fishing village of trayapana / Triabunna. At that time, we were travelling the East Coast of Tasmania looking for a “Grand Designs” project. Something to keep us busy as we transitioned from working life in Canberra to semi-retirement in Tasmania. After a six-year renovation, doing much of the work ourselves, The Barracks were passionately and triumphantly restored to the highest level of workmanship in October 2021. This was formally recognised in 2022 when the buildings won the Tasmanian Master Builders award for the Best Commercial Heritage Renovation. The main tourism drawcard for the area is wukaluwikiwayna / Maria Island National Park. This is a UNESCO World Heritage listed site, known for its complex history, beautiful scenery and abundant Australian fauna. It is the site of “Darlington” a Tasmanian Probation Station that operated between 1845 and 1850. For these reasons Maria Island is a popular attraction, receiving over 29000 visitors in 2022.
