I have just one air-conditioned B&B room in my lovely cottage-style home. The guest bedroom looks out over the garden. There's a flatscreen TV with many channels as well as movies and Netflix. Guests are welcome to sit in the living room or enjoy the outside deck and garden. I'm an avid gardener so the back yard is gradually evolving with several flower gardens, fruit trees and raised beds with fruit and vegetables. I have chickens so fresh eggs every day.
I previously ran a B&B with four rooms for 6 years. I became a widow in 2013. In March 2015 I bought my current home and missed having guests so started with just one B&B room and enjoy it so much that I decided to add the second room in 2017. When I get time I enjoy gardening, golfing, dragonboating, curling and walking with my dogs. I have two small, friendly miniature dachshunds. They are permitted in all common areas of my home, (but not in the guest bedrooms). The dogs love people, but if you have allergies or are not a dog lover (or, at the very least tolerate dogs), then, sadly, this isn't the B&B for you.
My guests love my home in the Old City Quarter of Nanaimo. In spite of being so close to the downtown core, it's very quiet here and the neighbourhood is very community oriented. Guests and locals are often amazed at the size and style of my garden, so close to the city. The Old City Quarter is just two blocks away and there are four really excellent restaurants there - La Stella (Italian), Asteras (Greek) and Bistro Taiyo(Japanese) and Masala Culture (Indian). A few minutes walk takes you to downtown Nanaimo where there are many stores, boutiques, and restaurants as well as the museum, convention center, the casino, the Bastion and the Port Theatre. On Thursdays all through the summer, downtown Nanaimo hosts a street market with loads of local vendors artisans as well as an assortment of food trucks. Maffeo Sutton Park with its lovely harbour-front walkway is a five minute walk from home and in the summer there are many community events in the park including live music and theatre, music festivals, and several boating festivals (silly boats, bathtub races and dragonboat festival). Vancouver Island Whalewatch give me a 15% rebate which I hand on to guests, so do let me know in advance if you plan to book through them.
