Our GETAWAY Homes for Rent brand was born in 2014, when a group of three people with extensive experience in real estate management and tourism decided to offer travelers, welcoming and different properties in special areas of Gran Canaria. But Maspalomas is not only known for its enormous expanse of dunes or for having one of the best climates in the world. It is also known for its old lighthouse, which experienced first-hand the arrival of our first tourists and the incredible transformation of this landscape, which has now become a privileged holiday destination. Lighthouse of Maspalomas, in the south of Gran Canaria Ever since that first traveller realised that good weather was the norm on this kilometre-long beach, the Maspalomas Lighthouse has witnessed thousands of days of sunshine, honeymoons and walks by the sea. The Maspalomas Lighthouse dates back to 1861 and its construction took 28 years. At that time the place was an uninhabited spot, cut off from the rest of the island. Its first light was turned on in 1890 to serve as a guide for the ships that covered the route between Europe and America, and it was the only existing construction between the three kilometres that separated Playa del Inglés and the Oasis of Maspalomas. Today everything has changed around it. Now this lighthouse is located at the beginning of a busy promenade, a boulevard full of shops, restaurants and leisure areas, ideal for strolling in the moonlight or enjoying the infinite views of the sea. A few metres from this promenade is the start of the Special Nature Reserve of the Maspalomas Dunes, a huge protected natural area of exceptional value.
