Private rooms with ensuite bathroom. No breakfast included. My home is located in central Windermere, the gateway to the Lake District. The house is a traditional stone built Victorian property built in the 1880's on a quiet road 2 minutes from the centre of Windermere Village and a pleasant 20 minute walk to the village of Bowness and the Lake. It is less than 10 minutes walk from the train/bus station. Many cafes and restaurants can be found just round the corner on the high street. There are also some lovely walks available from the property and local buses can take you to most of the famous tourist attractions. Whether you are interested in hiking, cycling, horse-riding, open water swimming, exploring historic buildings and gardens, visiting Beatrix Potter attractions, messing about on the water or just enjoying the local food and drink, there's something for everyone in this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site. For those arriving by car, there is free parking on the street outside as well as a paid car park right opposite. There are three rooms available at different sizes, each offering double beds and a private en suite bathroom with towels and free toiletries. Each room also has free WiFi, a hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The property is a home, not a hotel, so please note that this is ROOM ONLY accommodation. There is NO BREAKFAST or access to the kitchen. As mentioned above, there are many places offering breakfast, lunch and dinner within a few minutes walk. There are 2 minimarts, Sainsbury's and Coop, just round the corner, and a larger supermarket, Booths, up at the train station.
Birch Tree House is a traditional Victorian terraced home, owned and run by Tim and Hannah (us!) who live in the property. We have also lived overseas ourselves and love hosting and meeting people from all corners of the world. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We are happy to give tips and recommendations for things to do and see in the area. We look forward to hosting you soon!
Windermere is one of the most popular locations in the beautiful Lake District. It has the only train station within the national park and is known as the Gateway to the Lakes. Lake Windermere is within 20 minutes walk from the house. It is the largest lake in the UK and is host to many national sporting events such as the Great Northern Swim, the Fred Whitton cycling challenge and many marathons and triathlons. You can go rowing, sailing, paddle-boarding or hire kayaks from many places on the lake, while the beautiful fells (as the local mountains are known) offer spectacular walking and hiking opportunities. Guided walks and tours are available. Nearby Brockhole is a great location for families with a zip -wire and fantastic tree top trekking experience amongst other fun activities. If you are a railway enthusiast, you can jump back in time and take a ride on a steam train on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Or maybe hire a bike, check out a slate mine, go abseiling, or try ghyll scrambling. The outdoor pursuits are endless but if you are not a sporty type there is still plenty to see and do. The Lakes have been attracting writers and artists for years. Amongst the most famous are Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth and John Ruskin, who all lived here and whose homes you can visit. If you are interested in gardening, the beautiful Holehird Gardens is situated just outside Windermere in the most stunning location overlooking the lake. It is a 10 acre fellside garden, entirely run and maintained by volunteers. In 2023 it was voted RHS Partner Garden of the Year regional winner for the North of England and Northern Ireland.
