Company information

We (Dani and Cameron) took over Distant Hills in July 2019 having spent the previous 5 years working as chalet hosts, ski and walking guides in Switzerland, Italy, Austria and the USA. We have also both served in the Royal Air Force for a number of years which may explain our high standards of cleanliness but we are a very relaxed couple.. We love to travel and are keen walkers, skiers, mountain bikers and generally anything outdoors. When we are not working in the guest house, we are usually out and about exploring the local and surrounding areas and then sharing photos and stories on our Distant Hills Guest House Facebook page. We love nothing more than sharing our knowledge of the area and all the fabulous things to see and do with our guests. We are happy for you to contact us before your stay if you have any questions about places to visit or particular interests you may have and we have a selection of guidebooks and maps to borrow during your stay. We also love languages and thoroughly enjoy listening to the vibrant buzz of different languages being spoken at breakfast time and even having a go ourselves! We love people and we love what we do! Our home is your home!

Neighbourhood information

Spean Bridge is a small rural village with a convenience store, post office and a couple of very good gift shops. There are two excellent restaurants within the village, two pubs and a cafe. We recommend guests book ahead during the busy summer period. There are more excellent restaurants a short drive away as well as in the nearby town of Fort William, which also has a number of shops, supermarkets, a small museum and a cinema. Spean Bridge a great central location for day trips to the Big 3 of the West Highlands - Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, and the Isle of Skye . Other areas easily explored from Distant Hills are Fort William, Glencoe, Aviemore, Oban and Inverness and we can recommend itineraries tailored to your interests. Another hugely popular attraction is the Jacobite steam train and the Glenfinnan Viaduct, also known as the 'Harry Potter bridge'. Tickets for the Jacobite steam train are booked up months in advance with a limited number being released on the day. Surrounded by forests, lochs, glens, hills and mountains, Spean Bridge also makes the perfect base for hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking and skiing in the winter. We can make recommendations for all abilities.
