The house is set in 10 acres of fields and woods within Dartmoor National Park and the Wray Brook runs through our land, so there is plenty of space to relax, enjoy and explore without leaving our grounds. Sustainability and our love of the environment is at the core of everything we do. There is a large guest lounge where you can relax and socialise with other guests if you choose and if the weather is good there is a beautiful sundeck and a patio where you can sit and watch the sun go down while enjoing a locally sourced drink from our bar. The lounge has a woodburning stove, large TV, lots of board games and books and a refrigerator where you can store any food you have brought yourself. There is also a microwave, toaster and drink making facilities available to use all day. If you need anything - just ask. We are making every effort to improve the sustainability of our B&B: we try to avoid the use of single use plastic and have eliminated small plastic packaging from the toiletries and breakfast items. We have solar panels for some of our electricity supply and solar water heating to help heat the water. We have a private water supply and our sewerage goes to a septic tank. Although our central heating is currently oil fired we have two woodburning stoves fuelled with wood from our land. We have an EV charging point at the B&B (additional charges apply). We proudly hold the Green Tourism Gold Award and in 2024 we were awarded Devon Tourism's Gold Award as Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Business of the year.
Kevin is a retired freelance IT consultant, and Michelle is a retired environmental consultant. We love getting out onto the moors and mountains and enjoying the natural environment. That's why we moved (back in Kevin's case) to Dartmoor and want to share our piece of paradise with like minded people. We live in the house so are available to answer your questions, help with plans and socialise with you if you wish. Guests have their own lounge and dining space.
There is a very good pub and tea room in Lustleigh village and several pubs and a cafe in Moretonhampstead. Both can be reached on foot or by bicycle along the Wray Valley Trail which runs along one side of our property and you can walk from the front door onto the moor. We have lots of ideas of things to do to make the most of your stay. Dartmoor is famous for its tors and moorland, sheep and ponies, but did you know that it has more ancient monuments than anywhere else in the UK? The woods in the Wray Valley and nearby Lustleigh Cleave and Yarner Wood are part of the rare temperate rainforest.
