Larger than many other shepherds huts. The onsite owners were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Lots of nice touches by the owners to the property to set it apart from less well thought out huts. Very good value for money.

The Cloves Farm Shepherd’s Hut on the western slopes of Dartmoor National Park is the perfect rural escape, boasting panoramic views of Dartmoor. The cosy cabin is situated on a family-run working dairy farm near the picturesque village of Lydford in the heart of Devon. With its charming interior, this is a perfect relaxing retreat which sleeps up to two adults. Well behaved small dogs welcome by prior arrangement (additional charges apply) - send us a message to discuss further. Our Shepherd’s hut provides free Wi-Fi and can be used all year round with its modern electric heating system, en-suite electric shower and bathroom situated within the hut. It’s surrounded by acres of farmland with your own private parking and a secluded garden featuring an outdoor dining and seating area with its own log burning fire pit. The perfect setting for alfresco dining and night-time stargazing. Steps lead you up to the entrance of the Shepherd’s hut with a veranda for you to take in the breath-taking views. Inside you will see a two-seated breakfast table and a well-equipped kitchen with sink, integrated fridge/freezer, plug-in electric hob, kettle, microwave oven, toaster and food storage. Cutlery, plates and utensils are also provided. The main room is decorated in a contemporary country style and features a comfortable double bed. There is a panelled heater and extra blankets to ensure you stay warm and toasty and free WiFi. The wood-panelled en-suite bathroom features a newly fitted shower, a heated-towel rail, toilet and sink.
We run a working dairy farm so there may be the occasional farming vehicle driving past! We have a farm dog Bella who you may see exploring the farm. She is always put away at night and doesn’t rise early in the morning, but she may pop around to say hello. She’s a very friendly and sweet-natured dog. You might also spot our westie terrier Chloe and a handful of our dairy cows. Our farmhouse is situated just 100 yards from the Shepherd’s Hut so we’re on hand to help you if you need us at all during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you. Corrine & Steve x
The secluded Cloves Farm is nestled on the fringe of Lydford village, which is home to the historic Saxon Lydford Castle. Just a short walk away is the National Trust’s Lydford Gorge noted for its mystical woodlands, the Whitelady Waterfall and delicious cream teas. A range of idyllic moorland hikes, breathtaking country walks and popular bike rides are right on your doorstep including The Granite Way cycle path, Widgery Cross and the coast to coast cycle trail, part of the national cycle network passing right through the village. There are two well renowned Inns close by, The Castle Inn in Lydford Village (a scenic walk from our Shepherd’s Hut but you may need a torch on your return!) which is a quintessential 16th Century Inn known for its hearty pub food made from local produce and The Dartmoor Inn which is just a 5 minute drive away and offers award winning country dining. There is also a well stocked local farm shop selling award winning pasties, fresh meat and vegetables nearby. Popular market towns, Tavistock and Okehampton are just a 15 minute drive away with regular bus routes to both.
