Situated in the very heart of Bellingham town square and within walking distance of an extensive range of local amenities, pubs and restaurants, The Old Workshop is an ideal retreat for couples seeking a relaxing or romantic break in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. The Old Workshop is a beautifully appointed 1 bedroom apartment. A large, sumptuous and traditionally furnished bedroom with en-suite shower room leads down to a modern, stylish and fully equipped kitchen and dining area adjacent to a cosy lounge. Facilities include a flat-screen internet smart TV, WiFi, an electric fan oven/grill with a four ring halogen hob, microwave cooker, washing machine, fridge/freezer and all the necessary utensils, towels and linen to make your stay completely comfortable and relaxing. We have secure bike storage for cyclists and there is plenty of storage for walking boots and equipment for those wanting to explore the Pennine Way or the Hareshaw Linn waterfall.
I make soft furnishings and curtains and have brought my skills and experience to bear in furnishing the cottage to a high standard and finish that many guests have commented on and appreciated.
Bellingham is nestled on the banks of the majestic North Tyne River. It is the gateway town to the North Tyne Valley, Kielder Water & Forest Park. Bellingham is a small rural town but offers plenty of amenities including three lively pubs offering bar meals and entertainment or for a quieter and more intimate dining experience there are two excellent restaurants. During the day there are a number of excellent cafes to visit and several general and specialist shops including a bike and outdoor shop. Bellingham's proximity to the North Tyne river makes it popular for salmon-fishing but for those who prefer more active pursuits there is also an excellent 18-hole golf course and a fitness centre. Very popular with walkers, the Pennine Way passes right through the town square directly in front of The Old Workshop. Why not stay for a week in the Old Workshop to make the most of your visit to this beautiful part of the Northumberland countryside. Bellingham is also a good base if you want to explore some of Northumberland's best-known attractions. It lies nine miles from Kielder Water & Forest Park and is only a dozen miles from Northumberland's own World Heritage Site, Hadrian's Wall. There is plenty to see if you want to stay local to the town. Hareshaw Linn Walk is a stunning 2.5 mile walk through ancient English woodlands passing the remains of an old ironworks, criss-crossing the Hareshaw Burn and ending at a stunning 30 foot waterfall. The town is also home to the Bellingham Heritage Centre which celebrates Bellingham's rich industrial and cultural past. There are sections on the Border Counties Railway, which ran through the area en route to Scotland until 1958, and a display on the Border Reivers that provides a fascinating insight into the robbery and violence that was rife in 16th century border life. Northumberland National Park covers more than 400 square miles of awe-inspiring landscapes from Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site in the south, to Kielder Water & Forest Park in the west, then northwards to the Cheviot Hills along the Scottish Border. Being the least populated of all the National Parks, we have the clearest air and the cleanest rivers. Criss-crossed by 700 miles of footpaths and rights of way, you can walk, cycle or horse-ride with only the sounds of nature for company. You'll meet friendly folk who are passionate about their way of life and take pride in sharing it with you. You'll discover wonderful food, observe unique wildlife and explore ancient sites of international significance. Picturesque market towns and villages provide everything you need to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Officially recognised as having the darkest skies in England, Northumberland National Park together with part of Kielder Water & Forest Park, has the prestigious status of being England's first and Europe's largest, International Dark Sky Park (Gold Tier).Which means that on a clear night you will see the Milky Way, and even the Andromeda Galaxy (2.5 million light years away) with the naked eye.
