'The Wee Anchor' is a traditional fisherman's cottage situated just a stone's throw from Arbroath's historic harbour and boatyards. It was lovingly renovated blending traditional decor with modern amenities to provide a fabulous, characterful holiday cottage . Note we do not take bookings for 1 night!!! The cottage is split over two floors, with bedrooms and the bathroom situated upstairs, and a living room (with dining area and small office area) and the kitchen downstairs. The kitchen has been recently refurbished and is fitted with all the comforts of home, including a full size fridge/freezer, a full size cooker and hob, microwave, washing machine as well as the usual - a kettle, toaster, coffee maker. The lounge has been refurbished with smart TV wall mounted above fireplace. A sofa bed added (incase you want to add a visitor) comfy armchairs and a reading corner. Desk\workspace & WiFi moved to under stairs. A new downstairs *loo* has been fitted off the hall saving a trek to the upstairs bathroom!!!!(and handy to come in from garden) The garden has also had a facelift and the summerhouse has been refurbished for your relaxation.
We're Jean and James Stewart, and before our semi-retirement a decade ago, we ran the vintage tearoom Sugar and Spice from its inception to 2009 and before that, we ran The Old Brewhouse public house and restaurant from its inception through to 2003 We've run holiday lets for the past 30 years, firstly acquiring 'The Wee Anchor' which is immediately opposite The Old Brewhouse.
'The Wee Anchor' nestles at the very end of the Seagate, across the road from the well known public house and restaurant 'The Old Brewhouse' and from Arbroath Fisheries, well known for their tasty Arbroath Smokies. The area is largely residential and home to several holiday homes, so despite being so close to the harbour and High Street, is quiet and peaceful, particularly in the evenings and at weekends. The convenient location near a traditional fish merchant, combined with the fully featured kitchen allows guests to prepare a variety of fish dishes using fresh, locally caught ingredients. Eating out is equally easy, with the tea room and sweet shop 'Treasures' a minute away in the High Street, and the restaurant 'The Old Brewhouse' just across the road. There are a variety of other coffee shops and restaurants only minutes away on foot. The harbour is a couple of minutes walk away, and several vessels offer sea angling trips, whilst in the other direction, you can walk for miles on the footpath network that covers the Seaton Cliffs between Arbroath and the small village of Auchmithie. Fly fishing, hill walking and other sports are an hour's drive away inland.
