This is an absolutely beautiful property. We all loved the modern interiors and the little nods to the old school that it was. There were seven of us and everyone felt that they had their own space. The beds were very comfortable. Plenty of...

This renovation was just a stroke of genius- Taking the nostalgic elements of an old Irish schoolhouse and changing it to a luxury stay. It is close to a few smaller towns so you’re always near a shop, but honestly you wouldn’t want to leave. The...

Introducing Dillon School House - a former school exquisitely transformed into a 10 person guest retreat. Nestled in central Ireland between Sliabh Bawn and the serene River Shannon, it combines modern design and luxurious finishes with original charm. A mere 7 mins drive from Lanesborough, Termonbarry, and Strokestown, 15 mins from Longford and Roscommon, and 35 mins from Athlone and Carrick-on-Shannon. 50mins from Ireland West Airport. Dillon School House is your perfect base for exploration.
We were introduced to the former derelict school, by our friend and past pupil in 2021, instantly falling in love. Coming from both construction and design backgrounds, we were captivated by is beautiful symmetry and generous spaces. We knew we had to save this magnificent building from the ravishes of 30 years of neglect, which marked the beginning of our two years of dedication to bring life back to the old school. As we got to know the local community, who regularly checked up on our progress, dropping off photographs and newspaper snippets of the former life of the school, we knew that keeping as much of the original fixtures and fittings were paramount. Liam achieved this by re purposing or reusing everything from the floorboards to the desks into handcrafted concealed walls, the bench seat, the sofa, even the stairs! Every aspect of the interior was considered and if he could make it from what the school offered, that was always the first option! We hope we created a bright and joyful place that can be enjoyed by family and friends of all ages - A welcoming space that hopefully you will fall in love with, just like we did.
Rural location, You will need a car!! It is on a main road so although the large site is completely secure, there may be some traffic noise when outside, this cannot be heard internally. The School is beside a Catholic Church which has Mass on a Sunday morning, so we would appreciate less noise outside at this time Some things to see and do! Sliabh Bawn - this large hill has 6 looped marked trails, a playground, picnic areas, heritage sites and spectacular views over surrounding counties! The National Famine Muesum, Strokestown Park - a compelling, must visit for anyone with an interest in Ireland. Highly recommend. Strokestown Park Estate - Unique opportunity to explore the untouched original features of this 300 year old Palladian "Big House" and gardens where the last Irish aristocrat lived. Strokestown Golf Club - Beautiful course just minutes drive from Dillon School House. We have junior and senior set of clubs. Further details of welcome email
