The Irish Independent Travel Guide placed this venue 4th on a bucket list of places to visit in Ireland - "what seems like an ordinary roadside pub....opens up to the most spectacular views over Clew Bay at the back". The property consists of 5 rooms above a bar/lounge/restaurant in a quiet rural coastal village on the Wild Atlantic Way and Great Western Greenway off road walking and cycling route. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by mountains and unspoilt countryside, peat bogs and quiet beaches. The property overlooks Clew Bay with it's 365 islands- one for every day of the year - across to Croagh Patrick and the Connemara mountains. Mulranny Beach is a five minute walk away. The rooms are done to a very high standard all with crisp white bed linen on heavenly deep mattresses and pristine ensuite shower rooms, all newly renovated. There are two traditional bars below, one with an open fire. The lounge/restaurant at the back opens up to the most spectacular panoramic view of the bay and the mountains beyond. You can also enjoy the views from our terrace outside or our garden below. We serve seafood and steaks overlooking this incredible view.
We are proud Irish people who love to welcome guests from all over the world. Our friendly staff are always available to help out and advise you during your stay. We are a traditional Irish pub but also a restaurant offering good quality locally sourced bar food - steaks and seafood a speciality, but also traditional Irish fare such as bacon and cabbage and Irish stew. You will start the day with a good hearty Irish breakfast to set you up for your day. We encourage you to make the most of the numerous activities in the area which can be booked through the tourist office which is just across the road from us, or we will help if we can. Bikes can be hired on site to cycle the beautiful off road Greenway which stretches form Westport to Achill Island - we lie between the two. We encourage you to enjoy everything from mountain climbing, surfing and boat trips to the islands, to fishing, horse riding or more leisurely walks. You can enjoy the craic at the end of the day with us in our bars, have a nice meal in our restaurant or sip a cold wine or beer - or a perfect pint of guinness - on the terrace in good weather (pray) watching the sunset over the bay. Or a storm raging in it!
Our location is perfect for any kind of holiday - active or leisurely or a good mix of the two., We are good for a rural country holiday, a beach holiday, an adventure holiday, romantic, family, walking, cycling - we tick all boxes. We are surrounded by mountains and peat bogs. Ancient rare protected indigenous Irish goats roam the village and countryside as do sheep - watch for them on the roads! There are lots of blue flag beaches. Activities include - Kite surfing/surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, boat trips, river/sea angling , whale & dolphin watching, seal cave trips, horse riding,, mountain climbing, hill walking, guided walking tours, local festivals, live music, traditional music workshops, seafood foraging, artists work shops & galleries, Achill Heritage centre and Aquarium, Ballycroy National Park & Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve (20 mins)- the list s endless! We are the gateway to north Mayo & Achill Island (10 mins) and only 1 hour from Ireland West airport, 1.5 hours from Galway, 40 mins from the county town of Castlebar and 25 mins from bustling Westport Town with it's bars , shops & restaurants, Currane coastal route & The Atlantic Drive on our doorstep
