About this property

The Old Cable Historic House is a Designated Milestone Heritage Site tracing its origins to The First Transatlantic Telegraph Cable from Ireland to the USA in 1866. A halfway stopping point on the Ring of Kerry, the guesthouse is 5-minutes’ walk from Waterville beach. At the house guests can experience the remarkable story of this defining moment in Ireland's and technological history. With views of the ocean and the surrounding countryside this charming guesthouse offers bright, spacious rooms with Wi-Fi. Free parking is also available. The Kerry Dark Sky Reserve surrounds Old Cable House and is considered one of the best places in the world due to its pristine dark skies and lack of light pollution. Cooked Irish and continental breakfasts are served daily and there is also a selection of evening meals available. Produce is locally sourced with fresh seafood from the Atlantic and Kerry lamb and beef. Waterville is renowned for its sea trout and salmon fishing. It also boasts a championship standard golf course, which is just a 5-minute walk away.

The stay was uncomplicated and friendly from start to finish. The room was comfortable and clean, providing everything we needed. Dinner in the evening was excellent, and breakfast was also very good. While it was not cheap, the quality made it...

Really comfortable stay with exceptional food at the restaurant attached. Good shower, comfy bed and really cute little village with some lovely pubs (with very generous measures). Great spot to leave for the Skellig islands.

Great spot away from the village to avoid noise but also close enough for the short 2min walk into it. Bed was also quite comfy!

Our room was fine, but the bed was uncomfortable. We had a very good dinner in their restaurant and we liked the convenience. Breakfast was good but maybe a little pricey at 15 euro.

Neighbourhood information

Skellig Michael Day Trip Holy Ground Sacred Place Daily passenger boat trip to Skellig Michael - subject to assessment of the weather and sea conditions of the day. Departure time is 10am. A 2 day stopover is recommended at Waterville for this trip as you are normally back on the mainland by about 4 pm also make time just in case of tide delay. The Skellig boat trip takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes each way, passing very close to Small Skellig and its 27,000 pairs of nesting gannets en route. But don’t have eyes only for the birds; Grey seals are a part of the daily scene, and dolphins usually accompany the boats. Our visiting time on Skellig Michael is normally about 2/3 hours giving you adequate time to follow the island’s only roadway, climb the only accessible stone stairs, tour the old monastic site 200 metres above the sea, and admire the puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars nesting on the island from the end of April to the early days of August. During high season, there are guides/wardens on duty in the monastery area. They can give information and answer visitors’ questions. For persons travelling without cars – pickup and dropback
