Hello, just to tell you little bit about our area. We are located in a quiet rural area but still close to many of most popular nature attractions in North-East Iceland. In Husavik, about 20 min drive from us, is the best whale watching area in Iceland. In the bay you have most of the time Humpbacks and/or Minke Whales, and very often White Beaked Dolphins. For the last 5-6 year the biggest of them all, Blue Whale, has been a regular visitor also, occasionally we have Orcas, Sperm Whales and a hybrid of a Sei Whale and Blue Whale (that one is a regular visitor every summer for the last few years). It has come into the bay several times over the summer (mainly in late May, June and July) staying in the bay for maybe 5-10 days, feeding and then go out for the open sea again and turn back later. But it´s like the northern lights you can never count on it. I believe the reason we have so many different whales in the bay has something to do with the fact that there are two rivers, one clear water coming from Lake Myvatn, and one glacial river the run into the bay and this somehow makes a good feeding area for the whales.
