Welcome to our charming house, nestled in the heart of Stykkishólmur, a historic fishing town on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Located just a scenic two-hour drive northwest of Reykjavík, this beautiful home is the perfect base for exploring Iceland’s natural wonders. Originally built in 1904, the house has been lovingly restored to blend classic charm with modern comfort. Its distinctive pastel exterior, complemented by a cheerful yellow door, is an inviting sight in this picturesque town. Spanning approximately 150 square meters, the house features polished original wooden floors and a cozy, thoughtfully designed interior. It offers four bedrooms: two with king-size beds and two with twin beds, providing plenty of space for families or groups. The fully equipped kitchen combines vintage-inspired charm with modern functionality. With a dishwasher, oven, Nespresso machine, and traditional coffee maker, you’ll have everything you need to prepare meals and enjoy them in the open and airy dining area. The house has two bathrooms: one with a shower, washing machine, and dryer, and the other with a luxurious freestanding bathtub—a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. The living areas are bright and welcoming, featuring comfortable seating, tasteful decor, and large windows that let in natural light. Outside, you’ll find a sunny deck with garden furniture and a Weber barbecue grill, ideal for soaking up the serene Icelandic atmosphere. The property also provides free Wi-Fi, a TV, and ample parking for added convenience. Whether you’re strolling through the charming streets of Stykkishólmur, enjoying the breathtaking views from the nearby harbor, or venturing out to explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula, this house offers the perfect combination of history, comfort, and location. Make your Icelandic adventure unforgettable with a stay in our beautiful home.
I live in Reykjavík with my husband and our three children. My husband grew up in Stykkishólmur, which is why we’re fortunate to have a house there. We absolutely love spending time in Stykkishólmur and make it a point to visit our cozy and inviting home whenever we can. It's our favorite getaway!
Stykkishólmur is a charming town steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty, making it one of Iceland’s most captivating destinations. Known for its meticulously restored historic houses and vibrant sea life, the town offers a rich cultural experience. It is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Islands," as it serves as the starting point for exploring the countless islands of Breiðafjörður, including the enchanting Flatey Island, accessible by a short ferry ride. The town is also home to the iconic Súgandisey cliff, a perfect spot to take in panoramic views of the harbor and surrounding landscapes. Stykkishólmur’s Volcano Museum and Library of Water are unique cultural attractions that provide insight into Iceland’s geological and artistic heritage. Just a few minutes’ walk from our house, you’ll find an array of services, delightful restaurants featuring local seafood, museums, a supermarket, and the town’s renowned geothermal outdoor swimming pool—a must-visit for relaxation. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in Miniature," is only a short drive away and offers a diverse range of landscapes. From the iconic Snæfellsjökull glacier, a mystical and volcanic peak featured in Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, to dramatic lava fields, black sand beaches, and picturesque fishing villages, the peninsula is a treasure trove of natural wonders. It’s also a fantastic place to see unique rock formations, stunning waterfalls, and even basalt cliffs at places like Arnarstapi and Lóndrangar. Whether you’re taking a scenic hike, visiting the nearby Berserkjahraun lava field, or marveling at the dramatic Kirkjufell mountain—a photographer’s favorite—Stykkishólmur and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula offer endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.
