The Salento peninsula - located as it is between two seas, the Ionian and the Adriatic - has always been a popular destination for conquering populations. People from Byzantium, Normans, Aragonese and many others crossed it. The beautiful monuments and the stunning architecture are witnesses of such human vicissitudes.
