We had booked the 1 bedroom apartment. This had two beds and a futon bed. This was a thin mattress, which was fine for us, but not recommended with back problems. We had to make the third bed ourselves, and it was a bit tight to fit in. There was...

Kagurazaka Retro Hotel has four properties in total, one single-family detached house with garden, and one apartment for smaller groups. If you are with a large group, I recommend you to book all four properties which can accommodate up to 14 people in total. All rooms are built in typical Japanese style and the bedrooms have traditional tatami mats. Most buildings in Kagurazaka were destroyed during the Second World War, but have been rebuilt to mimic the original style of houses from the Showa period. You may encounter some of the cute cats of this neighbourhood as well.
I usually only communicate with my guests via Booking messages, but if you need any help during your stay I am happy to serve you. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions regarding my property, the neighbourhood or travelling to Tokyo in general.
Being famous for its cuisine and history, Kagurazaka has modern cafes, craft stores, Japanese, French and Italian restaurants. The cobblestone streets and river will remind you of Paris. Exiting from JR Iidabashi station, you can enjoy the many souvenir shops and cafes on Kagurazaka Street as you walk your way up towards my apartment. Experience the history of Tokyo Kagurazaka is sometimes referred to as a large labyrinth due to its many small lanes and alleys that were once home to geisha. During the Edo period, warlords’ mansions and tradesmens’ townhouses stood side by side along the slopes of Kagurazaka. In the Showa period it became a famous spot for geisha and writers. Most buildings and slopes were destroyed during the Second World War, however people kept to the original layout when rebuilding the town, which is why Kagurazaka managed to preserve its quiet, refined atmosphere of the olden eras. Enjoy getting lost in the backstreets of this historic town and you may find some of the houses once owned by famous Japanese novelist and other national icons.
