Riad Siwan was a former palace of the Khaloufi family and was built in the 19th century. Mr Khaloufi was a magistrate at the Tribunal of Marrakech in the 19th century, and it was originally build as his "townhouse". We restored the building over a period of 3,5 years in its former glory with loving care and respect for the old tradition to create an oasis of comfort and tranquility in the heart of the medina of Marrakech. We used craftsman from all over Morocco to bring back the plaster sculptures, its 4 meter high cedar wood doors, its sculptured cedar wood ceilings, and combined that with 21st century necessities like airco's, rainshowers, underfloor heating and a pool.  All curtains, fabrics and almost every piece of furniture and lighting have been specially designed and made in Marrakech for Riad Siwan. The style reflects a fascinating fusion of traditional Moroccan, African and European influences, but remains unmistakably Moroccan with many unique pieces of African and Moroccan art and photography which we have been collecting over the years during our travels in various parts of the world.
