The house was gorgeous and had everything we needed. Loved the features e.g. vintage toilets w chains, like obviously the propietors have put a lot of time and love into restoring it and keeping the spirit of the place intact. You can feel it.

Breakfast was fine. Good range of cereals and bread. Would have been nice to have bacon or sausages and eggs if you wanted a cooked breakfast.

Our hosts were wonderful. We were only there overnight and were rather tired. We had blankets on the bed which were a bit heavy, not having used blankets for years, but we don’t live in NZ. The house, the garden and the total vista was amazing,...

Beautiful home. Very hospitable hosts. Superb place to stay. Friendly welcome from Annette & Steve (& Ruby the dog). Lovely warm room. The house has the charm of yesteryears including a chain flush toilet & claw foot bath. Would stay here again.

Property information

Headlands estate is set on a 2 hectare lifestyle block. An easy 15 kilometres, 11 minute drive from the main street of Whanganui and most definitely well worth the journey. Headlands was first established in the late 1800's after John Ruscoe and his wife immigrated from England and began their life in Fordell, Whanganui. They built a beautiful house made of solid heart Rimu. After a fire in 1987 the house was rebuilt and handcrafted to original standards once again with heart Rimu. Enjoy the fire throughout winter and enjoy the picturesque views of the farmland from the kitchen window. Wander through the acre of forest, around the pond, check out the original barn or simply relax on the decking with the views of mount Ruapehu in the distance. With Whanganui City just 11 minutes away you can enjoy one of the many eateries available throughout our fantastic City and return to Headlands for a relaxed, quiet stay. Secure your booking today to experience this breath-taking property. We look forward to seeing you at Headlands.

The river that flows through the heart of our city runs from the mountain to the sea.
