A modern take on a classic kiwi bach. Contemporary, yet compact with a mid-century retro vibe, our recently refurbished holiday home is cozy in winter and sunny in summer, making it perfect for year-round getaways.
With three bedrooms (one with its own small deck) there's just enough space for some quiet downtime, and the separate shower room and toilet makes the most of a small footprint.
Inside the fully equipped modern kitchen has everything you need, and there is a BBQ outside, and there is a sperate laundry with tub, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Our double glazed but small home sits within a fully fenced garden that gets all day sun. There is a generous deck with undercover seating, and a garden that attracts the local birds.
There's room for the kids, with a small garden out front, and just enough space for a game or two of yard cricket.
Out the back is a shed for storage which you are free to use and a washing line.
I'm fortunate enough to have travelled extensively through New Zealand and the world and now call Auckland home. I am happily married with twin daughters. I have a love of cars, motorbikes and gardening!
We fell in love with Mangahwai about 15 years ago. Our holiday home was built for us by a local builder, and now we enjoy letting it out occasionally to holiday makers from NZ and across the globe.
We hope you'll enjoy Mangawhai as much as we do; there's so much to do - sometimes a short walk away, sometimes a drive. However you get to where you are going, there is lots of choice.
Mangawhai is a growing and popular holiday spot, known for its surf beach and estuary, allowing for a wide range of water based activities. It is around 90 minutes from central Auckland or about an hour from Whangarei.
The property is an easy 5 minute walk to the museum, cafe, movies (weekends only) and popular Mangawhai Activity Zone. The estuary beach is 15 minutes' walk away, the local Wood Street shops (for cafes and bars) is 20 minutes' walk away, which is about the same distance as the local scenic lookout. Mangawhai also has public tennis courts, a well-regarded local 18-hole golf course nearby and of course Te Arai links, about 20 minutes' drive away.
There are also vineyards, orchards and olive groves to explore in the neighbouring hills, and don't forget a trip to the weekend markets or Bennett's boutique chocolate factory.
The spectacular surf beach is a 5 minutes drive (around 30-40 minutes walk). The surf beach is also home to the spectacular cliff walkway, which on a fine day is a must do - but it will take 2-3 hours and give you a good workout.
