Wharepuke has been in the family since 1938. Robin Booth moved back to the family land in 1993 where, from completely bare earth he started a subtropical nursery and started the plantings of what is now lush subtropical "Gardens of National Significance" NZGT. Robins daughter Tania with her partner Mark moved to Wharepuke after travelling An old army barrack was moved from Auckland on the back of a truck and converted into a restaurant.The cottages were built Mark Graver RE set up the Wharepuke Print Studio, NZ's only dedicated nontoxic etching studio, and the Art at Wharepuke gallery, specialising in international printmakers but also exceptional works in other media. A sculpture trail meanders through the gardens. There is a changing exhibition of sculptures and provide opportunity for artist residencies for artists from around the world. Maha Restaurant :Run by couple Ming and Diane. Award winning chef Ming Poon describes his food as "where East Meets West".He uses local produce and wines and is fully licensed.They have numerous awards and write-ups in top national magazines
Kerikeri is a boutique town with lots of cafes, wineries and crafts. Wharepuke is just a 5 min walk to NZs iconic historic area the Stone Store Basin reserve where there is NZ's oldest buildings, Maori history and lovely river walks to see waterfalls. Just 1km to Kerikeri town
