Amazing location. Stunning setting. Short hiking trails were nice, but very very short. It’s all about Kayaking. Yurts super comfy and heater is amazing! No covered porch on all the yurts-didn’t understand there some were covered and some not

Company information

Shearwater Cove was built by hand by owners Jason and Charity. Our guiding vision was to create a space for guests to experience the Alaskan wilderness without having to give up their creature comforts. We are a small, locally owned company which means a highly curated and personalized experience for each of our guests! Shearwater Cove was established in 2016. We are home to 7 oceanfront yurts that are accessible only by boat from Seward, Alaska. Shearwater Cove also features a waterfront pavilion that is perfect for watching marine wildlife and mingling with other guests and our friendly staff. Shearwater Cove is off the beaten path and offers guests a unique way to experience the wonders of the Kenai Fjords. Our protected location in the heart of Resurrection Bay makes Shearwater Cove an ideal location for sea kayaking for both beginners and experienced paddlers alike! We are surrounded by world-class kayaking destinations, all accessible within a 1 mile radius of our yurts. Shearwater Cove also offers guests the opportunity to explore on foot via our three trails that depart directly from the yurts. Each trail reaches a unique destination with perfect locations for epic photo shoots along the way. Our staff members are well experienced in Alaskan hospitality and consistently provide top-notch service for our guests. When you book a stay with Shearwater Cove you are supporting a small business whose greatest aspiration is to provide you the best, most personalized experience possible!

Property information

Shearwater Cove is a wilderness eco-lodge located in the Kenai Fjords! We offer oceanfront yurt lodging on our private property that is surrounded by the Alaskan wilderness. Activities of sea kayaking and hiking are included in your stay! Our secluded location is accessible only by boat from Seward, Alaska, and we provide boat transportation for all of our guests. The boat trip is about 40 minutes each way - look for wildlife such as humpback whales, sea otters, eagles, sea lions, and so much more! This entire experience is included in your nightly rate. Shearwater Cove was hand crafted by owners Jason and Charity, literally from the ground up. We take pride in our professional team of boat captains, lodge hosts, and cleaning staff who are friendly and knowledgeable. Guest reviews consistently highlight our staff as being informative, personable, and ensuring that guests are safe in our wilderness setting. We also take pride in the off-grid comforts that are provided in each yurt! Each yurt has memory foam beds, cozy heaters, a kitchen for preparing meals, a private shower and composting toilet, and private patio for enjoying the views. Stylish linens and toiletries are provided, as well as kitchenware and basic cooking supplies. There is no food service at Shearwater Cove so guests shop for their own food ingredients in Seward or Anchorage before boarding our boat. Our wilderness ecolodge is home to 7 yurts. We have 4 Original Yurts and 3 Premier Yurts. All of our yurts share the same amenities mentioned above. In addition, the Premier Yurts have the most prominent oceanfront views, are larger than the Standard Yurts to more comfortably accommodate 4 adults, and have a larger, covered patio space with outdoor furniture.

Neighbourhood information

Shearwater Cove is located in Resurrection Bay which is a part of Alaska's Kenai Fjords. Our 'neighborhood' consists of several key landmarks and parks including: Kenai Fjords National Park - ask about adding a sightseeing charter of the National Park to your stay. Sandspit Point State Marine Park - one of the main kayaking destinations accessible from our yurts. Thumb Cove State Marine Park - our boat passes by this stunning Cove with hanging glaciers on its way to the yurts. Humpy Cove and the Hidden Waterfall- a protected kayaking destination accessible from our yurts. The nearest town to Shearwater Cove is Seward, Alaska. Seward is connected by road to Anchorage. Most visitors to Alaska fly into Anchorage and then either rent a car, ride a bus, or catch the train down to Seward. All guests meet our boat in the Seward Harbor on the morning of their check-in. Seward is a waterfront town at the end of the Seward Highway. Seward is well known as the access point for Kenai Fjords National Park. Seward has many services including grocery stores, gas stations, a hospital, gift shops, coffee shops, various tour providers, lodging, and car rentals. Seward is a 2.5 hour drive south from Anchorage. However, during the summer there is construction and traffic that make it a 3 hour drive.
