Hamilton Urban Farm Guest House is situated in the heart of Pietermaritzburg. Run as a family business, this guest house offers visitors a tranquil stay on a working urban farm. Amongst rows of hydroponically-grown lettuce and the splash of tilapia fish in a greenhouse, you can expect a world-class accommodation experience in an eco-friendly guesthouse. We strive to offer you the greenest accommodation in Pietermaritzburg, with a focus on environmentally-friendly cleaning and the reuse of resources, with everything from rainwater to furniture being recycled or upcycled. Hamilton Urban Farm Guest House has five luxurious en-suite rooms on offer, a lovely outdoor swimming pool and offers a hearty breakfast menu made with our own produce or other locally-sourced ingredients. The property is close to all major sporting events, including the Comrades Marathon, Dusi Canoe Marathon and the Mandela Marathon. We are also situated close to the Pietermaritzburg airport, University of KwaZulu-Natal, and well-known schools, including Maritzburg College, St. Charles and St. Johns.
Hamilton Urban Farm is a family-run guest house and we would love to introduce you to the family. The Foley family run a unique farming operation at the Urban Farm. They grow lettuce and herbs hydroponically and deliver lettuce to restaurants throughout Pietermaritzburg and beyond. They also grows tilapia fish and have set up an aquaponics system. All our fresh farm ingredients are used in our breakfast menu – you can expect golden-yoked free-range eggs for breakfast and fresh chives in your omelettes. This is farm-to-fork at its best with absolutely no food miles!
Pietermaritzburg is second-largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. It was founded in 1838, and as such, has a rich and interesting history. An hour’s drive from Durban and two hours’ drive from the Drakensburg means that this city is an ideal base from which to explore the wider KwaZulu-Natal region. Hamilton Urban Farm and Guest House is located in the tree-lined suburb of Hayfields in Pietermaritzburg. Set just outside the Pietermaritzburg centre, there are views of the city from the balcony. - Pietermaritzburg Oribi Airport is a 12 minute drive away - University of Kwa-Zulu Natal is a 7 minute drive away - Comrades Marathon down run start is a 12 minute drive away - King Shaka International airport is a 1 hour, 16 minute drive away
