We had booked NH Collection Berlin Mitte am Checkpoint Charlie, but when we realized our train would arrive at Berlin Central Station instead of Berlin Südkreuz, we contacted the hotel about two hours before arriving to ask if we could change our stay to NH Collection Berlin Mitte Friedrichstrasse, which is just one metro stop from Berlin Central Station. The area has lots of bars and restaurants on a strip along the river so it is perfect for eating out in the evenings. Staff were friendly and helpful and you can store your luggage.
