If you can cook in Malindi, please cook. Chefs are also too expensive but if you are up for it, great. The customer service in Malindi is questionable, some restaurants even packing sub food as your take away. Also, the locals especially tour guides try to rip you off compared to other coastal towns, its quite annoying. Malindi town is typical of Kenya with a market, supermarket, lots of traders and as a tourist you are well served. Cool laid back town. Action is on the beach. Local foods like fish, calamari, prawns easily gotten-mostly in the evening. Its a 'crime' not to use a motor bike(boda boda) to tour the town on foot! Annoying whistles and hoots from the riders- just avoid eye contact! Malindi town is easy to walk around. Coffee lovers have a huge choice- kahawa tungu( peppered with cinnamon&ginger powder)- on the bench at every turn of road -or- in Italian themed coffee joints by the beach and main streets. Easy town to move around. Not that many pedestrian walkways. From my last visit(2023) there is an upgrade though. Need for more coffee places. The beach areas could be more cleaner. For coffee and lovely delicious snacks,go to Malaika restaurant opposite the Buntwani Beach Front. Walking is the healthiest way to move around Malindi,just don't give a visual contact with the boda boda taxis( you will ride unwillingly!) I visited the following places: Galana Shopping Centre Vasco da Gama Pillar Portuguese Chapel Malindi Marine National Park. I occasionally ate out from a wide range of restaurants in the city centre. The greenery well kept garden was very nice. The staff were so welcoming and not forgetting Mr Peter,the host who was very helpful,he sorted all our queries with immediate effect. The interesting part is that the apartments are located inside Ocean Beach Resort,which is a 5 star hotel on Malindi. We accessed the restaurant which offered very delicious meals. Located literally a minute from the beach. But not only that, the highly maintained grounds, beautiful location and fantastic swimming pools. The property is just a short TukTuk ride away from many good restaurants and a peaceful haven away from the chaos of the town. Everything was as described. We have got all the amenities we needed. Even the beach was nearby, wide and sandy, and like not often in Kenyas tourist areas, it was a "Beachboy free zone", that means no disturbing never-ending bla bla.
