Beautiful lakeside location with largely pedestrianized tourist area in old town. Amazing lakeside lido with excellent indoor and outdoor pools, slides and diving boards. Ascona is really beautiful and has lots of options for...
Ascona is really beautiful and has lots of options for travelers, especially in the summer months. Visitors can walk around the city and see museums (the Museo Comunale d'Arte Moderna and Museo San Materno have really excellent collections!), listen to music and have a meal or a drink at any number of places in the main piazza, hang out at the bagno pubblico or lido, or take a short but to Locarno. I stayed during the Locarno Film Festival and really enjoyed how relaxed Ascona felt and less busy compared to Locarno during this particular period. Losone is the underrated, non-touristy part of Ascona and Locarno. It is, therefore, where many residents live because it is quiet, with great access to the Maggia river. The best tip is to walk along the river. It is very well connected by bus, so if you want an area that is safe but above all affordable, then this is the area to stay. Ascona is expensive for what is literally a 5 minute bus ride away. From Losone you can equally head to Locarno as well as Ascona, or indeed go into one of the many valleys.Guest review byOliverSwitzerland - 10.0

There are a lot of hiking routes from Tegna or from places which can be reached easily by bus or train within 30 minutes from Tegna. I do not like to stay in cities when I go for hiking. Probably the best place to explore the Ticino area.
Probably the best place to explore the Ticino area. There are many sights in Lucarno and others are within 30 minutes by car (Bellinzona, Ascona, Isole di Brissago, Valle Verzasca). Those who like the Alps are 50 minutes away by cable car to Robieia, where they can spend the whole day in the area of high mountain lakes. It is definitely a good idea to visit the Italian town of Cannobio to enjoy the atmosphere of Italy, including real Italian pizza.Guest review byMartinCzech Republic - 10.0

It's for relaxing, not busy, use the place as a starting point to the different valleys...and if you have time, take the "expresstrain (do not get off for picking flowers...)" for a nice travel to Domodossola. A place not to be missed. Just one recommendation: Go there out of Summerseason (mid June to end August) it will simple be to hot.... beautiful lake, amazing walks, great small town. Very pictuesque. Fantastic swimming facilities. You can esily get the (every 15 minutes) bus to Locarno. Losone is a good place to explore valleys like Maggia, Verzasca, Onsernone, Bavona, Centovalli etc. for hiking, taking a bath in one of the rivers, pools, waterfalls. Also a lot and good Grottos to eat nearby Casa Kosamui. What is a bit annoying is the heavy traffic when you come down from the highway in Sant Antonino and Cadenazzo in directing to Locarno and there is no other road to avoid the rush hour.Guest review byAndréSwitzerland - 8.0

The entire area around Lago Maggiore is full of things to explore. Locarno is a nice town. Italy is not far away. It's overall the classical Swiss mix of Mountain and lake and an astonishing beauty!
