- From US$128.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,077 reviewsIt was a special experience to sleep in a treehouse in the woods. Our treehouse was very clean and good equiped to keep insects and other unwanted animals outside. The domain is located in the woods and the pure Costa Rican nature. It was cute decorated with lights and the common space had a beautiful view. There is an own restaurant and one word: amazing. The food was amazing. We ate every night something different and we got never disappointed. There were a lot of options and the prices were normal. The staff was kind and they gave us information about the activities in the surrounding area. The lodge is very secluded (which we loved because of the peace and the animal-sounds). It’s a 50 min drive to La Fortuna so you need to have your own car to get to the lodge. The way up is bumpy so we would recommend to drive with a 4x4 but believe us: it is worth it! We loved our stay here and we are so content that we’ve made the trip up the mountain.Guest review bySarahBelgium
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 92 reviewsThe resort is absolutely incredible! It is located in the heart of a lush rainforest with the local ecosystem being preserved. The facilities and accommodations are beautiful, clean and well-maintained. The villas are spacious and feature a thermal-water jacuzzi pool on a huge terrace. It was truly amazing to soak in the jacuzzi overlooking the jungles after dark. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and taken care of, and I felt like I was staying with family and friends. The resort is quite spacious, perfect for walking and hiking lovers like me. But for those who prefer not to walk, gold cars are readily available. Overall, I had an incredible experience and would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious yet eco-friendly retreat in the heart of nature.Guest review byOlgaNetherlands
- From US$450.87 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 529 reviewsThe whole experience at Tabacón was exceptional. It is expensive and we were (to be honest) expecting it to be quite busy with little space for a personal stay. However, this was absolutely not our experience. We were amazed at how private the thermal pools felt. There are so many places where you can sit with your own group completely secluded from others. The service was amazing and the quality of the food, drinks was also very high. An expensive trip, but certainly well worth it after 3 weeks of traveling through Panama and Costa Rica (a little bit of TLC for the family).Guest review byIan 1978Netherlands
- From US$188.94 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,646 reviewsLoved this place. Stunning view to the volcano. The thermal pools are great, they even have one with a bar with views to the volcano and we finished our days there. Loads of animal life, beautiful birds, 1m fluorescent iguanas, squirells… and their zipline was amazing too! Our daughters of 7/9 did tandem with the guides who were so sweet and helpful. Super recommended.Guest review byLuisPortugal
- From US$144 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,483 reviewsHotel and location blew our minds - so much to see and do on site that it merits a week's stay on the premises alone! Breakfast, rooms and views were all exceptional. Pool facilities and spa service were also superb. Hotel offers many activities both on-site (thanks Christian for being a great guide!) and off-site. Would definitely recommend and consider another visit.Guest review byJohnMalta

The included 30 min spa treatments (one per stay pp) were a nice touch. The activity (one per stay pp) was brilliant. The bird life around the property and the trail walk is beautiful. This is a great area to experience Costa Rica and the wildlife. We visited Mistico hanging bridges (great with a guide as located creatures we would not have); La Fortuna waterfall (no guide needed); Sky adventures (aerial tram, zip lines & trails); sloth guided tour; Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails (day pass with lunch) - all of which we would recommend!Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Just a medium sized town with everything you need.
Just a medium sized town with everything you need. There is a Wal Mart, Denny's and lots of other restaurants, stores and cafes. There is not a lot to see in the town for tourists, but it is easy to get into San Jose where you can get a bus to Jaco which has a great beach. You can walk into the town easily and it felt very safe, but I recommend taking the local bus. I would only go here to get to another place, but for a day or 2 it is a nice town to visit.Guest review by2020 TravelerUnited States - 8.0
Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town.
Bijagua is a small Costa Rican town. It’s not a tourist town. You are very submerged in the culture. Learn some Spanish. Everyone was kind. We ate at several restaurants. We shopped at the grocery. We seemed to be the only tourists. It seemed very safe. The food was EXCELLENT! We drank the water. Read up on tipping. Stray dogs are everywhere. Do NOT pet them at the restaurants. We did the Sky Bridge Tour in Bijagua (a little hard to find - it’s at a resort) and the Tree Top Chocolate Tour. Both we excellent. We hiked to the Rio Celeste waterfall. That is not an easy hike. It’s through the jungle. Wear boots! Snakes are a VERY REAL. We also did tubing down the river. SO FUN!!!Guest review byJenniferUnited States - 4.0
Proximity to Airport!
Proximity to Airport! This facility standards were substandard. My wife hurt her foot on a dangerous doorstop, sewer gas was overwhelming, no hot water, air conditioner was not hooked up, pumping hot air back into the room. The stairs right from ground level were dangerous. English was non existent with staff. They were courteous and helpful. There were no privacy coverings on the windows. Open hole in Bathroom ceiling.Guest review byKevinCanada - 10.0
Restaurant in front had great food. Staff was wonderful.
Restaurant in front had great food. Staff was wonderful. And the restaurant was fairly priced as compared to other places in CR. Access to the river at the back of the property was the highlight. We spent a long time playing in the river. And it felt so private. And it was free!Guest review byAmitUnited States - 10.0

The town might appeal to some, but it's not my cup of tea for CR. High population density, loud, lots of traffic. The main town square, around the park and church, isn't as peaceful as other CR towns and there were numerous panhandlers. We didn't find any stores or places to eat worth mentioning.Guest review byJohnUnited States - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 10.0

When making your reservation, ask for the biggest cottage possible. Its all uphill and sometimes rainy and foggy when making your way here, and stay on the road ALL THE WAY UP TO WHERE IT ENDS, at the reception, restaurant lodge. This restaurant was a total surprise. The food and service was exceptional. I vote for Jean Carlo as best hotel/restaurant host in the whole country.Guest review byminorCosta Rica - 10.0

Atenas is a beautiful town in the low mountains of central Costa Rica. The climate is moderate and dry. The town is very authentic and on Sundays you can find many families in the Central Park enjoying family time. The best part is that Atenas is not overrun with tourists. Definitely one of my favourite spots in the country and I have visited ma y areas of Costa Rica.Guest review byGrant67Canada
