- From £240.04 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 579 reviewsWhat makes this hotel so special is the service and surroundings - amazing thermal pool area surrounded by exotic tropical gardens. Nothing is better after a day's hiking, than returning to the hotel in the afternoon and soaking in one or more of the heated jacuzzis or having a drink at the heated main pool bar. The temperature of the pools ranged between 38° to 40° celsius and the water was refilled constantly with fresh water from the thermal springs. The staff were all so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and cater to our needs. Everyone from housekeeping (bed decorations with rose petals and a towel shaped like an elephant), to pool bar staff (top notch margaritas), front of desk staff (friendly check-in with many personal touches), restaurant staff (coffee replenished efficiently during rush hour) and front gate security entrance guard (jokes and banter as we were welcomed back like old friends after each days outing). These little touches across the board point to excellent management from the top. We had a beautifully decorated room, incredible bathroom with state-of-the-art shower and luxurious natural spa bath products. We booked a couples massage at the Loto spa and both the facilities and masseuses were great! We thoroughly recommend this for a great start to the vacation. The location of the hotel is on the main road so you do get some traffic noise but the convenience of being able to easily drive into La Fortuna and the warmth and efficiency of the staff more than made up for this. Plus our room had amazing views of the volcano and it was quite something to wake up and watch the sunrise from our balcony with the volcano in front of us.Guest review byAthensKiwiGreece
- From £106.58 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,483 reviewsArenal Observatory Lodge was highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Location and facilities are simply amazing. We didn’t expect to lay on our beds and watch volcano and toucans perched on the trees right by our windows! Staff is wonderful. Luis was our driver who picked us up in San Jose and told us a lot about area, tours and facilities during our ride. He was attentive and caring. He also delivered sunglasses we forgot in the shop in La Fortuna, was very kind of him. Carlos from reception helped us to receive our luggage which was delayed by airline. He informed us when luggage finally arrived. Trails are in very good conditions and have protection from rain every km or so. Trails were easy or moderate, so even my mum who is 64 coped with them and truly enjoyed it. Food in the restaurant is very tasty and well presented. Thanks to everyone in the Lodge who made our stay unforgettable!Guest review byYaroslavUkraine
- From £202.81 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 798 reviewsWe had a fantastic time at Hotel El Silencio del Campo. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The grounds are beautifully maintained, featuring lush gardens filled with birds. Every morning felt like a mini birdwatching session, as we enjoyed watching numerous birds—and even a curious squirrel—visit the restaurant during breakfast. The on-site farm was a lovely place to explore, adding a unique local charm to our stay. We also appreciated the on-site restaurant, which offered different menus each evening. On the days we didn’t feel like venturing out, it was the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious and relaxing dinner right on the property. The natural hot springs were an excellent bonus—peaceful and rejuvenating. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to unwind in nature with warm hospitality!Guest review byEkaterineBelgium
- From £186.60 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,350 reviewsWe had a beautiful balcony facing directly towards the Volcano, which we could appreciate also while laying in bed. The room was spacious and the beds themselves probably the best ones we had in our whole trip along Costa Rica. In the morning you could spot so many different kinds of birds directly from the balcony, that would visit the flowers of the hotel garden; which really makes you feel immerse in Nature. The breakfast was spectacular with so many local dishes and fruits; and the food at the restaurant was always delicious. The pool is super nice, due to the weather we limited ourselves to the hot tubs which were amazing after a long hiking day. We were surprised to see the hotel has its own veggie garden, and almost a third of the property kept as a reserved area, with a really nice path for a morning walk. We would definitely come backGuest review byManuelGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 92 reviewsThe resort is absolutely incredible! It is located in the heart of a lush rainforest with the local ecosystem being preserved. The facilities and accommodations are beautiful, clean and well-maintained. The villas are spacious and feature a thermal-water jacuzzi pool on a huge terrace. It was truly amazing to soak in the jacuzzi overlooking the jungles after dark. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and taken care of, and I felt like I was staying with family and friends. The resort is quite spacious, perfect for walking and hiking lovers like me. But for those who prefer not to walk, gold cars are readily available. Overall, I had an incredible experience and would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious yet eco-friendly retreat in the heart of nature.Guest review byOlgaNetherlands
- From £702.56 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 383 reviewsLoved the room, the bathroom, all the details. The view from the room was great, as well as the springs, both inside the Hotel and at Club Río. Personal was kind and welcoming, an extra star for Jorge and Diego at the restaurants! I would say it was also pretty good in terms of accessibility. I truly recommend the Spa, Gabriela will make sure you to have the best experience. Breakfast was good and varied, they offer GF options including pancakes and toasts. I also liked having lunch at Tres Cascadas.Guest review byLuanaCosta Rica
- From £222.48 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 553 reviewsBeautiful boutique hotel. Immersed in lush tropical grounds, full of lots of flora and fauna. The restaurant food was very tasty with a great breakfast. The staff went above and beyond with making our stay extra special, with room decoration and also with information on things to do in the area. Only a short uber ride into La Fortuna and a very short walk to the waterfalls. Definitely recommend it.Guest review byGrainneIreland

The views are spectacular! Nice stuff, if you don't speak Spanish, they speak (at least what I heard) English, German.... for someone who want to disconnect and meditate - will be a trill. Kitchen is exellent and not expensive. I saw a lot of people with small kids, but in the bungalow we didn't heard them at all.Guest review byUcraCanada

This is a great area to experience Costa Rica and the wildlife. We visited Mistico hanging bridges (great with a guide as located creatures we would not have); La Fortuna waterfall (no guide needed); Sky adventures (aerial tram, zip lines & trails); sloth guided tour; Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails (day pass with lunch) - all of which we would recommend!Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 8.0
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica.
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica. They have on main major highway and you must get off that highway to get to Jaco and Fortuna. The roads are windy and it takes forever to get somewhere. It took us 3.5 hours to get from Fortuna to San Jose and it is less than 100 miles. This is due to the windy roads which are typically one lane in each direction. However, it is a beautiful drive. Just be prepared! If you are in the Jaco area, do not miss Villa Caletas. Has an amazing view. We stayed at the Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos in Garabito. It is a beautiful property.Guest review byDenaUnited States - 2.0
