- From US$57.02 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.8Good - What previous guests thought, 274 reviewsFantastic Location, great pool - I understand that this is sometimes empty as is needs to be cleaned, however, private beach 5 minutes away. Bit windy, but this didn't spoil the stay. Coastal walk is very close by, small village as well, with a couple of small restaurants. Food is basic, but good, large quantities as well. We had a hire car, so were mobile, but taxi can be called - and arrives fairly quickly. It is at the end of the road, so to go anywhere you have to travel backwards and forwards along this single road each time.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 185 reviewsOur best stay in Santo Antão. Very comfortable beds, amazing rooftop with a nice chill area and well located in a quiet neighbourhood but close to very nice restaurants. The host Guillaume was very helpful giving us many useful information about hiking options including well prepared handouts. The rest of the Casa d'Mar team was also super friendly. We felt at home. Not to forget: they serve an amazing breakfast with the best banana bread ever!Guest review byPaulaSpain

The staff was so nice, she helped us a lot by calling some places we needed to call because we didn’t have a SIM card. The food of the restaurant was very tasty and good.Guest review byHSpain

It's wonderful brand new well equipped and modern apartment. For me the location was fantastic. It was meters from the beach and a supermarket and a great local restaurant. I always talked to town to meet the shuttles and drivers for hikes and the ferry. There is a great balcony - I also cooked and used the washing machine - living room was really wide in comparison to majority of apartment rentals I had. I really loved it.Guest review byMarkUnited States - 8.0

Beautiful view of the sunset from tidal pools where you can swim protected from the waves. My host arranged a reservation at a private restaurant in someone's home, with live music. It was delicious and a great experience. The town is a little dirty. I didn't stay long enough to really know the town, I'm sure it has its gems.Guest review byJustisUnited States - 10.0
Lovely small town by the coast close to mountain trails.
Lovely small town by the coast close to mountain trails. We stayed 5 nights but would have happily stayed another couple of nights. Good restaurants in town including an authentic Italian place run by an Italian and serving home-made pasta with tables on his terrace. He has a wonderful model town, that he has made himself, on display for you to look at while waiting to order. Casa Maracuja served good local cuisine and we also enjoyed the food at Paladar where they serve cachupa. We had a rental car, but there were also alughers available for transport to Porto Novo, the ferry port.Guest review byJacobUnited Kingdom - 10.0
There are many places to visit at this side of the island.
There are many places to visit at this side of the island. Xoxo, Cova crater, the walk between Cruzinha and Ponta do Sol, Paul valley, Synagoga are all fantastic. If you don't fear heights and like to hike up or down, then you find breathtaking views and hidden gems wherever you go. Hiking routes are fairly signaled, though we lost the way sometimes - but every time we found something extra, a nice village, terraces, locals working in the gardens or on the fields. The town is not big, but have some nice restaurants and bars to eat and drink. Easy to find taxi or aluguer, though not many are running on Sundays.Guest review byTamasSwitzerland - 10.0
Very small village but with lots of charm.
Very small village but with lots of charm. Visit the Hotel Tienne del Mar for a dinner or for a drink, there are amazing views. Pombas is also a good place for some great hikes (Cova-Pombas or Pombas-Pico da Cruz-Janela).Guest review byJQPortugal - 10.0

If you love large areas of rugged untouched nature, then Santo Antão is a magnificent island. Porto Novo is the perfect place to start your daily expeditions from. Be sure to rent a car and the entire island, with its stunning views around each bend in the bumpy mountainous streets, Is at your feet. The island is not that big and from Porto Novo, a car can get you anywhere on the island in 1.5 hours tops, whether you pass over some of the 1600m high majestic mountains or along the coast.Guest review byHammerNLNetherlands - 6.0

I was a little disappointed in Cape Verde as a whole (stayed in Sao Vincenzo and Sao Antao) While there are some amazing views in the rural and coastal areas a lot of the towns do not look very attractive - a lot of concrete and blocky, half finished buildings. Taken as a whole I didn't find the people as friendly and charming and jolly as is made out in certain guidebooks and websites, & you have to deal with a fair few hustlers and hagglers.....plus some of the staff in shops and eateries can be low key hostile and sullen. With regard to Porto Novo I came to really like it just because I stayed there for a fair few days, but be aware that it is not really a picture post card, touristy port town as you may be expecting. It takes a bit of settling in and getting used to. It is safe though.....you can walk around freely, but you get importuned by beggars and hustlers. Do try and support the local economy though by purchasing from roadside sellers. I got some home made cheese from outside the port and it was actually really good. :)Guest review byharryUnited Kingdom
