'Old' Ainsa is a relatively small but beautiful and interesting place. Our stay coincided with the end of their village festival, so there was plenty going on. On two nights we ate at a restaurant a couple doors down from the hotel, which specialised in pizzas but had many other options too - this was good, well-priced food, served very efficiently. We were based in Ainsa for quick access to the surrounding Pyrenees, and enjoyed two fabulous walks (Portal de la Cunarda and the Valle de Pineta). There's a large and cheap car park just outside the town walls (3 euros for 24hrs). There's also a very interesting bird of prey centre - museum and recovery centre - well worth a visit!Guest review byMikeUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Walked from the main road up to the castle.
Walked from the main road up to the castle. Quite a steep walk and would be hard work in the hot summer months. Couple of lovely little squares in the old town with a few bars and restaurants. The old streets are full of character.Guest review byJonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A small mountain town liked by walkers/cyclists/motor cyclists. There is free parking and the town has a few bars and restaurants, remember it is a small town. The road to France passes and you can be in France in 30 minutes (the tunnel closes at night). There are many organised mountain walks and plenty of paths and tracks to walk yourself. The weather, the cool evenings away from the fierce summer heat of the coast. An open air swimming pool is available at a small price. The stunning mountain scenery, the local produce available. No the Spain of the tourist brochures, a welcome bit of peace and a change.Guest review bygerardIreland - 10.0

Closest to the spectacular National Park of "Ordesa y Monte Perdido". This Park can compete with the best National Parks in the U.S.A. and China. Torla is a cute village and Broto with its cascade is close. You can also visit AINSA, one of the most beautiful villages of Spain and the Añisclo Canyon, with its microclimate and liquenes. Do not forget to visit also other glacier valleys in the area, outside the Park. The Park has a limit to the number of visitors per day and in the weekend the Guards of the Park may block the access if there are too many visitors.Guest review byPeterFrance - 4.0

Escalona is not a typical village, but a small place in the middle of a busy road with only two restaurants and nothing else to offer. It is a good place to reach Pineta or Escuaín, but a bit disappointing if you're looking for a typical Pyrenees village.Guest review byInêsPortugal - 8.0

Small village, only one restaurant (and some campings). Not so much to see inside the village. However, it is quiet and it is a good base camp for mountain lovers that want to visit Parque National de Ordessa and Monteperdido.Guest review byDriesBelgium - 10.0

Gorgeous town with many historic buildings and medieval streets to roam in. Staff at the tourism office fabulous as well as information about raptors in the area given by the eco museum. The historical museum was only opened on the weekend with a half day on Sunday so we missed out.Guest review byAnitaAustralia - 8.0
Boltana old town up the hill was lovely.
Boltana old town up the hill was lovely. The new town at bottom of hill was good. We were travelling through the pyrenees, this was a one night stay but sure there could be much more close that would make a longer stay worthwhile.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 6.0

For a town of 300 inhabitants that make their income mostly from the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit it each year, I found the average customer-friendliness lacking compared to other places we stayed in on our trip through the Pyrenees. Whereas we always enjoyed cheerful, friendly and helpful reception elsewhere, it almost seemed like people in Torla were almost annoyed by (foreign) tourists (not counting the super-friendly host at Villa Russell). Businesses also seemed to ignore their own opening hours, opening and closing at random. We regularly met closed doors when we needed something. If you want to visit the Ordesa national park, Torla is your only real option (unless you want to do lots of driving). And maybe that's the problem ...Guest review byGecko70Netherlands - 10.0

We have seen Ainsa change and grow in size during the 30 or so years we have known it - and judging by our own experiences would say that the growth has been good for both locals and tourists. Once a mere crossroads below a derelict castle, it is now a lively town. The sympathetically achieved cultural development in and around the castle ruins is worth a visit and a great place for a meal. The town has managed to maintain its traditional atmosphere while adapting to tourism and welcoming visitors to this outstanding area of natural beauty.Guest review bykneenIsle of Man
