Situated in a central, quite, location but a ‘stones’ throw away to the hub of activity. The hotel has been tastefully restored retaining the old charm. Clean and beautifully decorated. The bedrooms are delightful the bed extremely comfortable and all the mod cons of a 5 star hotel. Beautiful, cosy seating areas to relax downstairs, a bar and a lovely outdoor terrace with plunge pool. My partner and I were cycle touring around France and were booked to stay here one night. We were greeted warmly and positively by Julien the owner on our arrival. Once panniers and luggage removed from the bikes he kindly helped us with taking them to the garage at the side of the property for safe storage. One of us is vegetarian and he recommended a wonderful restaurant opposite the castle which we could admire whilst dining outside and it was a perfect evening with delicious food. Breakfast was served in a delightful dining area with a delicious array of choices again no stone left unturned. On setting off on the bikes about 15 kms into the ride I had a mechanical problem where I lost my gears and the bike couldn’t be ridden. We were in a rural area. I telephoned the hotel where I spoke with Anne Juliens wife to ask if she could contact a taxi for me in French to get me back to a bike shop in town. I couldn’t believe it. She insisted Julien come and collect me in his van and take me to a bike shop in Nérac. Julien was there in no time and took me to a shop back in town where he interpreted. And the mechanics attended to my bike right away. He insisted on waiting until he knew they could fix it and that I would be back in the road refusing to take any money for his time and petrol. Staff members were amazing sorting out anything we asked. It does need money spent on the outside area pool but saying that I can’t fault the place for what we used it for and kids had a great time. Beautiful little town.
Beautiful little town. We were attending a wedding there, in the Cathedral Sainte Marie. We were fortunate that the night prior was the Fete de la Musique. The town was very upbeat, with live music everywhere. We ate at a restaurant on the square and after walking around awhile we settled in at the Irish Rock Cafe for some live music and dancing outside the cafe. It doesn't take long to explore the town. Don't miss the Cathedral. Make sure, if you are not driving your own vehicle, that you prearrange transportation. Although there was a taxi stand, there weren't any taxis available. The highlight has to be the lovely chapel of Carmel when the nuns are singing their office every day. Such a peaceful, spiritual experience. The people of the town also seemed to welcome the hundreds of pilgrims passing through on their way towards Compostella. The cathedral church is also lovely. The Restaurants were excellent, the main street lively, especially on Friday - Market day. Everything was great beautiful views over the river. Easy to arrange a fishing permit in the town to fish the river. Most people spoke English which made communication very easy. Shops restaurants very close good service .
