We particularly liked the large terraces and the very large and bright bathroom. The restaurant was exceptional, not cheap, but worth the experience. The breakfast was also good. You can't go wrong here, it's close to Lyon yet in the heart of wine country you can go cheap if you choose to shop only at Carrefour or Leclerc, or you can go big at Beau Rivage, Bellevue or Chez Henrioux in Vienne. A real find on the road trip down from Calais to the Var.
A real find on the road trip down from Calais to the Var. Don't be put off by its out of town location - easy short drive and park into Valence. Night shuttle got us there by early afternoon and left us with loads of time to mooch around the city. A very pleasant stop on the famous "Route Nationale 7" mythic French vacation highway. Also easily accessible from the major highway. Tain is a wonderful town, right on the Rhone River, with world-famous vineyards. Check out some of the wine bars operated by the vineyards in the center of town. Wonerful market on Saturday mornings.
