For my situation, I needed car park and pets allowed, I wanted to go to the ocean which I did one day and it was amazing - I was too hot and tired to go another day due to no AC in room, outside temp 34 degrees. The area was nice, but I prefer countryside , for my requirements and budget there were no hotels in the countryside for the dates I needed - it all depends on peoples' individual circumstances, for some it is just one night stop over for the airport , I had several requirements , and would have liked another day at the sea. Best to have a car. We used our car very day to drive to various vineyards and wineries on both the left bank and the right bank. The location of the chateau is near the main highway and easy to access. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is incredibly pet friendly. Our room had a huge bed which was comfortable. Usual French style pillows. Excellent buffet breakfast and walking distance to a restaurant or service station cafeteria for dinner. Only possible complaint was no English channels on TV but then we were in France so not surprising lol! Will thoroughly recommend and stay again. Ease of access to transport, grocery store, parking spot. Ease of getting in, feeling safe, secure and cozy. We arrived after 8pm, Marion was waiting for us with the keys and instructions . The location and the female owner’s attitude. However, as the restaurant was closed and we had booked a table, he tried to move our booking elsewhere without joy. He was unhelpful in his excerpts. It’s very tired and worn out and uncomfortable, but her food is amazing!!! It’s worth staying just for her food. Sauternes is a very pretty village but also a very small one-horse town. we arrived on a Monday and all the restaurants were shut and the 1 tapas bar that is open doesn't allow for dogs (we chose this because there was a review from someone who was driving from the Uk to Spain, the same as us, and had a dog and they recommended this bar, however I think the policy has changed since then. Our hosts weren't very hospitable and sent us to Langon telling us there was a lot open there, however, there was only 1 bar serving terrible food. The BandB was centrally situated from the Chateaux area of Medoc. Only an hour's drive to the picturesque areas of Arcachon, cap Ferret and Dune du Pilat and just 12 minutes to downtown Bordeaux. We drove to areas an hour or more away and used Uber to and from downtown Bordeaux. We really enjoyed the wonderful Italian food from Palatino. We enjoyed a tour to the quaint town of Saint Emelion as well as Chateaux Tour Baldoz. Using the very informative Tourist Office we took an informative boat tour on the Garonne river as well as a mini train ride around the city. A clean and comfortable hotel, good for those using it as a pit stop on the way to/from Spain. Its on the main motorway so a way out of the city centre so probably not good for anyone wanting to explore Bordeaux.
