Elisa and Roland were very welcoming. We were offered fresh croissant and bread from the local bakery each morning and as we were in a chambre d'hote also had tea and coffee making facilities and ample bottled water. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal cooked by Elisa and learned about their plans for Chateau la Barge. We really liked the mix of rooms, apartments and mini-camping. Quite peaceful, a lovely pool and pretty gardens with shady spots - welcome as it was warm when we were staying. Beautiful countryside with river swimming, lovely villages and interesting visits to make. Unspoiled starry nights.

What can we say that hasn't been said already !? The Chateau and the grounds are simply magical and breathtaking with sweeping lawns of wild grass and flowers and ancient elegant trees.the sound of birdsong is everywhere. You feel you are in a very special place indeed. What makes the whole experience perfect is your kind and sympathetic host Stephane; it was a privilege to spend time in Stephane's home......he is a superb host and chef.....breakfast in simply wonderful and you should book your evening meal at the Chateau which is prepared by Stephane: each meal is exceptional! We will be back !

Boulazac has commercial trading estates which are useful for accessing supermarkets and petrol stations but not for tourists unless the accommodation is found on the outskirts where there are quiet and tranquil residential areas and semi-rural locations to be enjoyed. It is, however, very close to Perigueux with its tourist attractions and gastronomic cuisine. It is also well placed for visiting the Dordogne and all of its attractions by car.

This is a delightful hotel to stay in. The ambiance is excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the dinner in the restaurant was one of the best we have experienced and enjoyed in an hotel. Breakfast was first rate too. The newly opened spa is, together with the 12 metre outdoor pool, a 'must'! The owner is a charming and extremely helpful person.

It's a fairly new modern hotel, with spacious rooms with air con. We upgraded to one of the superior rooms with a balcony with a table and chairs and overlooked a grassy space with trees and a walking / cycling path to the rear of the hotel. There's plenty of space to put things in both the room and bathroom, a large walk in shower and the room has a kettle to make hot drinks. We found the staff we met to be friendly and helpful and the lady who was on duty on Sunday morning did an amazing job, keeping all the breakfast buffet topped up, clearing tables, helping out with queries as well as looking after reception - and all done with a smile. We especially enjoyed the breakfast - the best selection of items at any of the hotels we stayed at (including hot options) and not the most expensive either and the option to eat in the dining room or on the terrace outside the dining room, that did have some tables in the shade, was a nice option. We only stayed here for 1 night as it was an overnight stay whilst driving north back to the ferry, but would certainly consider staying here again (especially if the restaurant was open - we stayed in May and it wasn't at weekends, although a cafe & restaurant in the complex just over the road) and it fitted with our travel plans. A few little niggles.... There were paper cups in the room for hot drinks and they were quite small. The hand held shower attachement was quite low down in the shower so you had to pick it up to use it - it's nice if they are wall mounted higher up, so you can use if you don't want to be drowned by the overhead shower. Using the overhead shower for more than a short while resulted in water flowing out of the shower tray onto the bathroom floor.

    Stunning location.

Stunning location. Chateau was spectacular but also because it was a chateau it had its downside. I would return but would definitely book a room on the ground floor as anything above this was like a sauna! The dordogne is well accustomed to temperatures in excess of 30 degrees so should have provisions in place to offset this. Beautiful food and friendly staff. Pool area and spa fantastic.

Clean, easy to get round, not at all touristy, just a pleasant French town in the Perigord region. Unfortunately, I wasn't there long enough to explore the wider area. It was a nice change from Bergerac. I was looking forward to seeing the greco-roman remains but it was closed - it being a Monday.
