The Picturesque Land of Lavender and Pastis
With lavender meadows and limestone soils covered with garrigue, the beautiful Provence smells of herbs, flowers and warm mistral winds. This vast French region spreads along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea from the wetlands of Camarque to the peaks of the Maritime Alps.
Famous for its cuisine, picturesque villages and the weather, Provence is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations. People come here to relax under the stunning blue skies and enjoy a slower life pace over a glass of pastis or local wine.
But don’t be mistaken, Provence is as much about the bustling cities as it is about its quiet countryside. Make sure you pay a visit the 2nd largest French city, Marseille, the forever glamorous Cannes or the popular resort of Nice. All of them offer plenty of sightseeing attractions, cultural events and fine dining venues.
For a breath of art and history, stop in Arles, a town full of Roman remains and Van Gogh’s famous artistic inspiration, or Avignon, best known for the stunning Gothic Palace of the Popes - the seat for Western Christianity during the 14th century.

Beautiful decor, amazing facilities, a great sensitivity for the volume of the space. Attentive staff, wonderful location, clear, quiet, nice guests, excellent restaurants and good. While the hotel was full, it never felt busy, a very impressive accomplishment. Spa is fantastic, we had a number of treatments. I 100% will be staying again.Guest review byCubitSwitzerland

We visited in July during the French Theater festival.
We visited in July during the French Theater festival. It was a little too busy for our liking, but if you like French theater, it's a great time to be there. We took a tour of the Pope's palace, which is amazing and well worth visiting. We also did a half day tour of the lavender fields, which are about an hour away. Probably a full day tour would have been better. Good walking city overall.Guest review byCharlesUnited States - 8.0

If you like modern, upmarket, fairly busy towns, then Aix is for you. We were not keen as we prefer quieter, more relaxed places. But the town has some wonderful French architecture, plenty of modern shops, art galleries and a massive market that took over the whole town 2-3 times a week! We found it quite expensive for food but there was a great selection of restaurants covering many cuisines. This area is also very well served with trains and buses so it is easy to get around and the buses are very cheap! There is a large tourist information centre which we found very helpful for finding our way around.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Arles is a very nice City.
Arles is a very nice City. Plenty to see - antiquities and art. The Luma project was particularly good. Lots of good restaurants. Best time to visit is late August/September. A good base to travel around the area and see other sites/towns etc. Highly recommended.Guest review byNigelUnited Kingdom - 4.0

We Didn’t like Toulon. Large, busy place. The main town wasn’t nice and not somewhere I would want to walk around. Beaches were very average - dusty shingle rather than sand. I wouldn’t return or recommend. We included the visit in a stopover.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 10.0

there are no 5star hotel groups there.. no Mario's or sheratons or Hiltons ? wonder why ?? the hotels are overpriced for the value we get. But the city is lovely and a very nice place to visit. Ie. the Breakfast place where we stay - the older generation with old mentality are Races and Rude, but the new younger generation are very nice and polite. I thin the older ones have their pains in the Ass..s to worryGuest review byRajuHong Kong - 10.0

Hyeres is beautiful like with a touch of Saint Tropez but way more peaceful. The people are nice and kind-very helpful. There are so many beach to chooce from. The transfortation is efficient enough. My favorite spot is the Port Saint Pierre- where you can dine by the port. I stayed in Ibis Budget hotel which is very close to the city center. Also the weather is nice.Guest review byMarvinPhilippines - 10.0

I drove down from the Marne valley and this was as far as I wanted to drive in one day! Orange is a delightful little town with Roman theatre the main attraction, but I used it as a base to visit Mont Ventoux (Tom Simpson memorial), Avignon, Arles, Camargue and Pont du Gard - all easily reached by car. Quieter than the main Provence towns but with nice restaurants and cafes so was very happy with it as a base for 3 days. Favourite lunch spot was the Brasserie du Mule du Pape in Chateauneuf du Pape.Guest review byRobertUnited Kingdom
