For a few locations 5 stars raring is not enough, like Hotel Les Marechaux in Auxerre. The beautiful building, the location, the garden are all very nice. But... most remarkable is the atmosphere which is given by the hosts Isabelle and Fabian. Meeting them and you feel immediately welcome. There is no Ibis - or Accor hotel which can come any close to this level. The hotel has many old elements left, so everything remains in style. The rooms are spacious compared to most French hotels. The Wi-Fi is fast. There is enough (free) parking and the breakfast with (local) fruit perfect.

We stayed here just for one night on our way to Brittany. The room was clean and pretty - ours was on the second floor (which is good because of the old squeaky wooden floors) with a view of the village. Nice French antique style decor, slept with the window open and it was quiet. There is easy parking in front of the hotel.

I was surprised by the appearance of the room and en-suite loo and shower space which I would describe as 'state of the art'. Clearly there has been a recent refurb and the management has quite rightly invested in the most important element of the hotel for guests - the bedrooms. Well done!

The owners were not expecting us but rallied round and quickly prepared a delicious meal which was most welcome. The property is truly incredible. The conversion from ancient abbey to modern hotel has been carried out with great expertise. In the morning a lovely basket of breakfast items were outside our door. Everyone we met were delightful. We are looking forward to a longer stay in the future.

Characterful charming and cosy! Very clean and comfortable! Showers and toilets work very well. Lots of different room types. However the crème de la crème was dinner overlooking the river Yonne and observing its ever- changing colours shadows and skies. Truly magical setting.

A hotel on the waterfront, Hotel Maxime, a lovely old, quaint, medieval town with quality shops, a delicious meal at Chez Maxim, altogether a delightful stay. We were only there for one night but wished we’d been able to stay longer and explore more. A town to be recommended😄😄

Chablis seemed to be a town where people come to have an expensive meal and drink some fine wine. The town did not have many or any bistros, only high end restaurants that were totally booked on the night we were in town. Hence our dinner consisted of a charcuterie board at a local bar. I highly recommend reserving dinner in advance before visiting this town.

Tonnerre as a town or destination offers almost nothing - it has the Fosse and an interesting old church, but that's it. However, it is close to other towns such as Auxerre, Chablis, and attractions such as Chateau Tanlay.

Lovely walks down by the river and up to the church. Walking down was easier but taking time to walk up is the answer. Some excellent restaurants and bars. Nice atmosphere in the town and we didn’t feel on edge at all. Some pleasant shops to browse.

Warm welcome, one feels always confident, free parking, very good kitchen due to a limited choice, incredible wine card, nice place, easy to find... We had a congress close to the hotel. So we didn't stay beyond 1 night. We had dinner there. Suggestion : also visit Noyers s/ Serein, not far away, medieval city. Very nice ! ATT : if you join the A6 from Noyers, you can only go south. Impossible to go back north. GPS's know. They are aware of this stupidity.

    Sweet little town.

Sweet little town. An afternoon and a night there was enough for us. We found a great little restaurant for dinner and a very helpful and obliging lady in a wine shop. We came across a 12th. Century synagogue, but unfortunately it's only open once a year in July (we were there in June).
